Kelli Underwood has been dumped from the CH10 commentary team. I for one think she was given a year too many, The days of watching MFC with sound turned down are finally over.

At the risk of sounding sexist, It's a mans game and I would like only men calling the action. Women can stick to goal umpiring if we must have them involved in the game.

At the risk of sounding sensible, it's a top-level competition and I would only like people who are actually capable of calling the action doing so. Women can stick to goal umpiring (or anything else) they happen to be good at that.

You're not at risk.... you're far beyond that. Honestly, that dinosaur attitude is so ignorant. Golf is a mans game, so women shouldn't be allowed to play?

I have no problem with a woman calling the footy, but I have a problem with Kelli Underwood.

She seemed like she was putting on a voice to try and sound like Brian Taylor (who I rate even lower than Underwood). She also seemed to decide what she was going to say a few seconds before events happened, and continued with it even if the play didn't turn out like she expected.

I don't mind a female voice/perspective to break up the blokes. Get Nicole Livingston or Simone Thurtell on, I would be happy to have them call a game.

No problem with women doing anything in relation to AFL.

It's a specific issue with Kelli herself.

I think she's probably better than a lot of commentators out there, but she is not good enough for the position she was rushed into as a PR stunt.

With time she may be good enough, but she'd need to do something about that voice, too.

Kelli Underwood is/was a shocking Commentator...so is Rex Hunt. i refuse to listen to either. It is not a sexist issue-it depends on whether someone can do the job.

You guys do realise she's just being replaced by more of Michael Christian, don't you..??

Somebody save us...

Fine by me, M C at least played the game..Next one in my Gun Sight would be that little weazel Anthony Hudson, who i consider on the same level as Frank Walker from National Tiles....

Does a girl have the capacity to incite excitement in a call though? A memorable specie/tackle/goal, whatever kind of play requires a big roar of a call, not a shrill scream. I just can't see a female commentator ever doing it for me. If that is seen as sexist, so be it. Just keeping it real.

Sad to see her go. She was good but for her to really make it she had to be exceptional. Too many good commentators around and the novelty of having a female commentator wore off long ago. A lot of sexist guys around too that would never take her seriously.

She was alright. History will show she paved the way for other female commentators. In all honesty Bruce is probably more of a chick than Underwood. "Speccccial".

History will show a lesson learnt and nothing more.

I'll go along with that, there are a few more I'd like to get rid of as well, Rex Hunt and Brayshaw spring to mind. I can't understand why some of the callers seem to think that the louder they yell the funnier and more exciting they appear.

Underwood was the worst I've heard though.

Good on her for having a crack.

Good on Channel 10 for trying something different.

THANK GOD it is over.

Correct weight- and as Keyser stated the VOICE- if it is too much for the Keyser it is definately too much for me.

channel 10's commentators are pretty woeful, tim lane is and quarters are probably the best there, the one whos killing me the most now is

dennis commetti now, he tries to throw in one of hes clever one liners every quarter and everytime u can just tell hes been waiting for the right

opprtunity to pull out one of hes zingers!

One day a woman will come along who has a great sounding voice and fully understands the nuances of the game.

Kelli Underwood wasn't that person, but good on her for having a go.

This is a better sentiment then some of the chauvinism and 'you can't call AFL if you didn't play it' nonsense that is disguised chauvinism.

Not a great voice, far too literal, almost 'closed caption' for the hearing endowed.

But females are welcome to apply.

Agreed. The argument you've described doesn't even make any sense, otherwise the likes of Lane and McAvaney would've sank as commentators years ago.

Good post.

It doesn't mean he's any good.

The best callers of the game are:

- Gerard Whateley

- Dennis Cometti

- Tim Lane

- Anthony Hudson

- Glenn Mitchell (unfortunately only covers games in WA)

None of them have played football at the top level and funnily enough as well as being the best callers of the game, most have far more football knowledge than the ex-football special comments people.

What annoys me most is that "experts" such as Robert Walls and Liam Pickering get paid to state the obvious.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
