Ps. It also shows I don't rate Lucas Cook as a KPP.

His overhead marking is uninspiring.

I've gone with best available.

Mitchell covers needs in terms of forwards.

I think there's room in the side for both Heppell & Jacobs, even though they are similar types.

I think it shows how little I rate the KPP around 33.

Any taken there have just as much chance of coming good as one taken at 50.

Possibly switch Jacobs with Guthrie and you have your small defender.

I just really like Jacobs and it's like I said in a thread last year:

"it's a shame scully and trengove are both so good, because it means there's no chance we'll pick Dustin Martin"

Now look at him.

Jacobs can only be "best available" in your dream draft he's the next best player after Heppell given that you've agreed they're the same type. If it's a dream draft then surely a player that meets a need and warrants selection at 33 is much more dreamy? Yes like Guthrie for example.

My "dream draft" is based on there being a possibility of it occurring if the cards falling our way.

I've only considered players who I think have a realistic chance of being there at those picks (albeit as a long shot).

Guthrie / Jacobs is a tough call, even though one clearly suits our needs better, but Jacobs still wins.

That accompanied with the fact I'd be happy with Jacobs at 12, show how highly I rate him.

I'm not certain all recruiters do though, but that suits me just fine.

I've had mail that we'd take Jacobs, and whilst that looks unlikely now, I can hope like hell that we were aiming for him at pick 33 & that he gets there.

Lynch & Jacobs would be better than Heppell & Guthrie, but there's not a chance in hell of Lynch sliding to us.

Gorringe makes me uneasy.

[censored] this is funny.

By the way, if no one gets it 100% right (which they won't), how do you decide who is "closest to the pin"?

I reckon there is a chance. ie. Gorringe ahead of Lynch for GC ?

Who ever gets closest to the pin....

Well you had Jacobs at 21 in your own phantom and Guthrie at 16. Next time you did a phantom you've got Jacobs at 12 and Guthrie at 24 even though neither of them have kicked a ball in between. And you're a self-professed advocate of best-available. Now you've got Jacobs possibly at 33 even though you've had him going north at a rate of knots. Excuse me if your reasoning seems all over the place like a mad-woman's vomit.

If no one gets it, then no one will win the prize.

To those that have nothing better to offer than feined laughter , youve obviously missed the idea of the thread. No one really expects to nail it. Youd need to be clairvoyent. It is a bit of fun. Try your hand instead of sniggering or return your hand to what it what doing !!!

Well you've clearly missed the point.

Neither of them was a Best 25 in order, they were both Phantom Drafts.

The point is to try to guess where clubs will take certain players, based on your judgements of the players, the clubs needs and how you perceive the clubs to have judged them.

I was clear with my second phantom that I was just applying some "inside info" that I had heard.

Jacobs at 33 is purely fantasy, but that's why it's a "dream draft".

It's all very well to criticize, but I don't see your phantom draft.

I know I'm not an expert, i'm not a paid professional, it's just something I take an interest in & it's something I enjoy doing.

Think what you like.

For me its:

12 - Gorringe

33 - indigenous smokey

50 - Vanderlay

53 - Brendon von Shaikh

Looking forward to tonights telecast!

I wouldn't be suprised if we picked Pitt.

His name hasn't been mentioned with us, but if Gold Coast are really as keen as reported on Seb Tape, I can't see us passing up on such a talent.

I'm feeling pretty confident about my last two!

Every single year BP reads out a name that surprises the hell out of us armchair experts. With that in mind:

12. Brodie Smith

33. Cameron Guthrie

50. Ben Brown

53. Jordan Shroder

If I get 2 out of 4 I'm considering it a win.

Well I missed Jordan by one but no-one would have got anywhere near Howe.

Edit: Except the guy above me. Well done!

I think we will end up with 2, possibly 3 of these guys. I would still love to get Jack Darling though, but i dont think the Dees are interested in him at all.

12. Dyson Heppell or Ben Jacobs

33. Luke Mitchell or Lucas Cook

50. Jeremy Howe or Callum Sinclair

53. Kirk Ugle or Josh Jenkins

I was right about ending up with 2 of the players i picked. I just thought Cook and Howe would be later picks.

Well got two ... Sorta ! All a bit of fun . Welcome to the Dees guys :)

Happy that I got my Troy Davis.

Happy overall actually.

We are loaded with good young KPP to develop.

I'm surprised you missed any of them. Sort of like playing darts with a shot gun.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
