If Nathan Ablett fails at Gold Coast I think he'd be worth a risk for melb. Still only 24...is a premiership player...He's a KPF...194cm...and can kick goals. Melb could be lucky and get him for nothing.

If we don't get him now he's still young and could chase him in the future.

No, he won't nominate for the draft. He couldn't motivate himself to continue playing after being involved in a flag, with a club that he had strong family links with, with the prospect of making a bucket load of money.

If he couldn't get himself up to play in those circumstances, he won't anywhere.

Nothing against the bloke, he just doesn't want to be a footballer.

If he fails up there...why on earth would we want him? makes not a lot of sense. If he cant get up to play with the new dream team alongside his brother then one I think is fair to assume he isnt much chop !!

Melbourne could be even luckier any pass over him entirely. Its very much a 'between the ears' thing with Nathan

DD its a bit of a catch 22...if he proves any good...he'll make a decent career ( Mk11) at GC...if he doesnt.... then hes of no use to anyone.

ITs GC or bust for NA

how many players are written off and then come back to play in a premiership side

how many players win a premiership and them write themselves off? It's GC or bust for Nathan.

Correct.

GC may be quite excited about Gary Ablett jnr coming. They are not so hot about Nathan. Struggled to make the VFL side this year. Flaky and not committed. Prefer others thanks.

Nathan is a lovely bloke, but he doesn't have the fire in his belly.

His motivation is to play with his mates.

Trying to recruit him would not be wise.

nathan ablett has trouble being motivated to buy the paper each morning, let alone help us win flags!!

He walked out on his own club after winning one.....

Nathan is an Ablett in name only.

Please note....for every young/not so young/over the hill/delisted forward who is slightly muscular, and maybe has kicked a goal or two that appears in the next month or so....we don't need him

Because of injury/circumstances etc, and it still may not happen, we have the following tall (ish) forwards who could happily one day stand next to Mitch Clark

Lucas Cook

Leigh Williams

Stef Martin

Col Garland

Jack Fitzpatrick

Tom McDonald

Jack Watts

Liam Jurrah

But I am sure if the Club discounts the above and has their eyes on someone the first thing we will know about it is during the draft period

From the games I saw the year he played in the GF at Geelong I thought he was average.

I thought at the time I wonder how he would fair in an average side.

I think we now know the answer.

He also has no taste for the hard work required to be an AFL player.

Heart is not in it most weeks

I do not see Geelong showing any interest.

No for me

At least we'd have one AFL premiership player on the list.

I have always respected your posts - however this one doesn't make the grade,Watched him in both his matches for the Tigers- too slow and inflexible for AFL footy IMO.

Zing!

Such was the criteria when were looking at a coach and assistants, the all important

'winning culture' and 'successful club IP' traits were all the rage.

Bring him into the club ASAP. We probably havent had a flag winner since Peter Vardy have we?

And although it's very easy to, don't forget the sublime Chris 'the Heff' Heffernan.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
