Is Jamie Bennell eligible? Or is he allowed to play by virtue of Melbourne still playing this week?

I'm not sure what the VFL Record for tomorrow's game is going to look like but the on line record on the VFL website has picked up a little of late. Here's a sample being a preview of tomorrow's big game:-

VFL RECORD W1 FINALS: NTH BALLARAT VS. CASEY SCORPIONS

NORTH Ballarat begins its march towards history against Casey Scorpions, one of only three clubs to defeat it this season.

The Roosters, seeking to join Sandringham, circa 2004-05-06, Williamstown 1954-55-56, Northcote 1932-33-34 post World War I as the only VFA/VFL clubs to win three successive flags, were stunned by the Scorpions back in Round 3.

And, Casey inflicted a 10-point defeat at North Ballarat’s home base after storming home with a five to one goal last quarter.

The clubs meet on neutral territory – North Port Oval – but it’s a venue North Ballarat has made a second home over the past three seasons.

North Ballarat has won the past two Preliminary Finals at North Port Oval and defeated Port Melbourne, albeit by four points, at the venue as recently as Round 14.

For Casey, it will be its first trip to the ground this season, but there will be some unhappy memories from its most recent visit - last year’s Elimination Final when Collingwood demolished them by 115-points.

There’s some significant omissions from the Casey Scorpions team that defeated North Ballarat earlier in the season. The Scorpions will not be able to call upon VFL State defender Michael Stockdale and Melbourne’s Jack Watts and Jared Rivers, who have spent most of the season in the AFL.

North Ballarat team’s from that Round 3 match included North Melbourne players Daniel Pratt and Leigh Harding, who are most unlikely to play.

As has been its custom throughout its premiership seasons, North Ballarat has prevailed largely due to its VFL list. The Roosters have a core group, led by captain Shaune Moloney, who have stuck together.

Liston Trophy winner Myles Sewell, rover Stephen Clifton, negator Daniel Feery, veteran Marc Greig, defender Michael Sharkey, ruckman Orren Stephenson and emerging star Cam Richardson have been constants for the Roosters.

While North Ballarat may not have registered the huge wins that Williamstown posted, importantly they know how to win and rally when seemingly down for the count.

North Ballarat will start warm favourites following another spectacular season where they lost just the three matches, with its largest defeat 13-points against Werribee.

But, they can ill afford to under estimate the Scorpions who just kept winning when many expected them to stumble.

Casey has been helped by an exciting young list topped up by an equally exciting Melbourne list, but it’s been a veteran Brad Miller who has provided the finishing touches up forward.

Miller has kicked 36-goals. Not only has he provided a reliable avenue to goal, but also brought teammates into the match.

A reminder that today's game is being televised on ABC2 so hopefully fans will be putting in their comments and I won't need to post that often.

This will give me an opportunity to taste the famous Port Melbourne burraburger! :)

The boys are warming up in their predominantly red jumpers. I can see PJ and Matty Warnock but not Rohan Bail who is probably the emergency for the AFL game.

Sam Blease fans be happy. He's out there will Millsy, Belly, Maric & co.

I stand corrected. It's the old Channell 2 now ABC1.

Also, it's a Borough Burger but otherwise it's still the best burger available at any VFL ground.

Ballarat now by 34.

Third quarter halfway

The orange maggots totally changed momentum in the second with an absolute clanger decision mark to NB and a clearly wrong "no goal" after Bennell kicked a nice goal.. Twomreal game changers.

Now it is just a cakewalk..

pS make that 40

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
