Notice that a once target of the MFC in trade week a few years back in Daniel Wells is out of contract after these remaining 5 games.

Do you think the club would entertain a trade for him? Do we need him? i don't think we do, but would be interested to hear what people have to say- usually players like that who have a lot of talent but haven't quite lived up to it perform well in a different environment

Nah, let him go to GC17.

Really, it depends on what he costs.

I think I'd struggle to find room for him in the side anyway.

why does this over rated, soft receiver always get linked to melbourne when he comes out of contract

Not a fan, [censored]? If he gets his mind right, Daniel Wells could be a top tier player. But I don't think we should trade for him, though.

Someone please tell me he barracked for Melbourne as a kid :)

rof :):):)

hell didnt everyone apparently ???

Pass on Wells...

we have others

he is injured to many times really

his like daniel bell

good enough

just injuries let him down

Whoa. Big comparison. :D

He's mates with Davey.

comparison between wells and daniel bell is ludacris

bell isnt getting a game and has been told he's being shipped out

Wells would be a good target if he came super cheap. Wouldn't want to give up much though.

Daniel Bell didn't make it because he is an average player, not injuries

Its ludicrous.

Given our midfield stocks and our difficulty to find players to readily off load of our list, why would we chase a 8yr player who has promised alot but failed to deliver on the talent? Hw wont come cheap and offer little to our existing arrangements.

No.

Talented in the sense of being skilled in a non-competitive environment.

Does not have the temperament, nor the drive.

Besides which, we have mids to burn (most of whom I prefer at any price to Wells.)

Posted (edited)

Be a good pickup if we were close and had a deficiency on outside mids. In fact, I reckon he might find himself at a Collingwood/Carton.

Not for me. More youth please and let others trade away good picks for unrealised talent.

Exactly. I'd rather develop those we already have who show as much promise as Wells does now.

the upside is they have either played a few games (Gys, Strauss) or not at all blease, on top of Scully, Trengove, McKenzie

When we played them earlier this year and teh game was there to be won at the start of the 4th quarter Scott through Wells into the center and he did some great clearance work and willed his side to win. I think he would be better he in a better side, but injuries ahve stopped him from performing at his peak

Posted

Wells - not for me. Reminds me a bit of Shaun Burgoyne last year, injury prone and getting on a bit so he really doesn't suit. He would be ok for the Gold Coast where they need players with experience.

From our POV every player the GC Suns take elsewhere means one less target at Melbourne.

I think we might just have enough small forwards and mifielders on our list...

Be 'bad business' to have our host of kids feeling like they aren't being given a decent shake at playing AFL level.

More than that, we're gonna be riding the wave on the salary cap for ten years - really important that we don't do anything that would inflate our payments and player's expectations early.

For mine, no trades in at all for a few years. The Demons are built, not bought.

Its a NO from me

His biggest weakness is his work ethic

Probably why he hasnt reached his potential over the years

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
