Port to sack Mark Williams

Power Outage - Williams to go

Well here we go.

The first casualty of the year is ... Mark Williams, or is it really Port who comes out of this second best ? Laidley will take over for the rest of the year.

Rumours are around that Chocco might be Windy Hill bound in some capacity....or GWS...or Upper Kumbucter West. Mrs McGillycucky ( secretary and chief scone baker, as well as runner for the seconds ) has always had a thing for Choc apparently !!

Let the Coaching Merry-Go-Round commence lol Will we see others squirming in their coach's boxes ?

What do we all make of this ?

Amateur hour.

Absolutely. They've totally bungled their handling of coaching staff in the last 12 months or so.

I'd be pretty cranky if I were a Port supporter, but since I'm not I'll just sit back in my armchair with my popcorn and watch on in amusement.

Will this see the AFL refuse them a payout because they are making unwise decisions at board level, costing the club more?

As we were threatened with and the AFL has repeated with them?

(I don't necessarily think it is a wise thing to do but the AFL have made those statements...)

Agree.

Aside from Choco, I think Harvey is the only AFL coach to come out of contract this year.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Worsfold go too, although they'll give him more time.

Would have though Woosha on shakey ground too

Agree. Although he has a contract until 2011 or 12, West Coast could afford to pay him out from petty cash.

2011 will be interesting for Neil Craig as well. Vossy would not want another year like this year. He bet big at the start of the year and may suffer particularly as Brown, Black and Power diminish in influence.

Matthew Knights would want to have something positive in 2011.

And then there is Mr Bailey....

I think Bails is safe for 2011. But there would want to be the predicted improved results on the board. WCE have been fishing big time, Roos slipped the net so they will be having a further look around. Whos to say Laidley wil continue at PA in 2011 ?? Craig may have salvaged his security ( for now ) Voss is s fav son, he will get a bit of time to walk the walk.

Wholeheartedlly agree that M Knights is treading quicksand at the moment.

Contracts these days = leverage ( or none ) in payout, thats about it.

You're either a player manager or a gifted lawyer than makes a packet in sports law.

Very much so.

Laidley is not seen as a Port option. He is a WC chance.

Maybe Bails will give Choc a chop out and get him over to the Dees to lend him a hand. haha

Then the old P.A. boys could all be back in the box. Bails , Choco and Mahoney!

not a silly statement at all. But those West folk cling to lifeboats dont they, or rather melting icebergs !!! They love there nepotistic ways they do...lol But id agree thatsurely Woosha must beon shakey ground, the rebuilding isnt happening, the words are falling on deaf ears and they ( WCE ) dont like being down the cellar very much. That in itself isnt a bad thing...unless youre the coach !!lol

Harvey has had a 2 yr extension - to end of 2012 me thinks.

Can anyone add weight to the rumour that Knight's contract has KPI's that must be met one of which is making the finals - therefore at this stage he could easily be given the chop at the end of the year (with Williams a perfect replacement).

I'll miss Choco, is a character. Port were silly to reappoint him though, he was never going to resurrect the list enough to get a job past 2011 and both the club and the individual were silly to try.

Posted

theres a lot of rumour floating around that he'll be linked to Windy Hill should Knights position become void. Not necessarily as head coach though.

Its only starting to unfold...for him ( MW) and others who dont evern know it yet !!!! lol

I'd call them Bails, Mahoney and the Williams twins - we would have two Mark Williams

Sounds like a club that would not relent to the modern ways of business footy, until now... Just as the world seemingly is about to turn full on its axis & start going backwards to once it came. Figuratively speaking.

See the world economy & the profits.

Interesting times. I wonder whats around the corner?

Its taken us 4 decades to come to terms with this materialistic world, & I think its about to change again.

Will be interesting ..... Williams has ties with Essendon via the Sheeds era and of course to Sheeds at GWS He can coach, in his own fashion and does have the credentials of a Premiership to boot. This was a train wreck acoming for a long time.Fault ?? well Port's not a happy family really, there are divides similar to the Hatfields and McCoys..always a power struggle (snpi) there. Cant see Chocco out of work for long

I imagine a working class lad would possibly be able to relate well, to the locals of a working class region of Sydney. If I'm reading the locality of Western Sydney correctly.

Yep..the West is meat and gravy pretty much. Its just Mums and Dads..families..blue collar struggle etc. As decent as any area I suppose but definitely not the North Shore ;)

would imagine Sheeds will make a call at some stage ;)

One of the all time classic comments from Choco about stepping down. Said he was suffering from illness and fatigue - his supporters were sick and tired of him!! Ha

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
