So happy! So very happy! It's not just keeping him but the faith he has placed in us and where we are going. Great work Dees!

Herald Sun article petterd garland rivers.

"But as soon as I started playing footy and seeing the direction we were going in, it was pretty hard not to sign a contract to be honest." "The players were the biggest reason I stayed. The biggest thing was the boys."

Well done Ricky - Great to have you on board for the next few years.

WOOHOO

I'm surprised Rivers got two more, I don't think he is in the best 22 now, so by 2012 we could be in the same position we are in with Newton and Messon.

Rivers more than deserves two and is in our best 22.

Rivers more than deserves two and is in our best 22.

Frawley, Garland and Pettard were all 3 VERY important signings.

The only other players that need to urgently be resigned are Bate and Watts. However realistically Watts is too much of a risk for GC17 to throw mountains of cash at, because he's no certainty to become a player, so i'm not worried there.

Great signings.

My dream of seeing this forward line is still alive.

Green Bate Sylvia

Pettard Watts Jurrah

With Dunn, Wona, Jetta, Bennel, Tapscott, Fitzpatrick as forward options, there is no doubt that those 6 above are all genuine goal kickers with enourmous talent.

But... but... McKenna bought a house on the GoldCoast...

I don't understand how Petterd could stay with us in spite of that...

Posted

I have it on good authority that Petterd is off to the Gold Coast next season. Now, the AFL has just released information that clubs will be compensated in the following manner:

Elite Player: 2 first round draft picks

2nd Category: 1st round draft pick

3rd Category: Selection at the end of round 1

4th Category: Round 2 Selection

5th Category: Round 3 Selection

The question is, what category does Petterd fall into? The thing is, Petterd hasn't been able to show his full worth due to injury. But I would love it if he managed to slip into the 2nd Category although I think that to be honest, he is probably more a category 3 player given he has been injured all year.

Thoughts?

Where is that mansion quote?

Come on! The papers must have it wrong - Freak even knows the address!

Can somebody post the list of remaining uncontracted players. I couldn't find it using the search function.

With Frawley, Garland and Pettard signed, most of the important young guns are locked away.

I'd like to see how many other really important youngsters have yet to sign. Watts and Bate are the only 2 I can think of off the top of the head

Posted

Oh the joys.

In all seriousness though, it's very good news for the club.

Sylv, the Gys and Scully were two mentioned in the article, along with Watts. Not sure of any others - it's all too hard to remember!

It was the "good authority" you mentioned that had it wrong.

The picture on the Herald Sun site is FARKIN' EPIC

Well, looks like the GC17 will have to look elsewhere for talent.

I believe the following are out of contract:

Bail

Bartram

Cheney

Bate

Watts

Blease

Miller

Maric

Dunn

Bruce

Bell

PJ

Martin

Newton*

Meesen*

Hughes*

Healey*

Spencer*

Spencer will be offered a contract on the seniors, leaving us with a clean slate for the rookie list. The dees will look to re-up Blease, Maric, Dunn, Watts, Batram, Bail and Bruce. I think Cheney might be asked to to a "Jordie" and play on the rookie list next season. This may also be the path for Maric who has much to prove.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
