Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Brad Miller must return this week!

I know Miller is our favourite whipping boy and he's border line AFL standard but who else do we have up forward? Who can we honestly say was our full forward today? They had McKinley, Kennedy and Lynch as their FF options...we had who??

The guy has been performing CONSISTENTLY at VFL level and a 7 week penance (crap Rd 1) is enough. Bring him in along with Morton and Wonna and lets start kicking goals again.

We are trying to build our next premiership team which will contain neither Miller, nor Newton.

Neither should get into the team it's simple as that.

Going by your logic we should have kept Robbo.....

Talking at a north supporter from Perth at the game today he would say this about west coast:

Mckinley isn't AFL standard

Lynch couldn't get a kick in the WAFL and wasn't sure how he got a call up other than Worsford has been panicking because he wants to keep his job, the media have been all over him out west.

I would take exception to your comments about Miller in the VFL, having seen him twice in the last 3 weeks he just butchers too much ball. Maybe people need to get to Casey games themselves before plumbing for guys like Miller

I actually agree with BBP.

I really think Brad Miller would have been a big difference out there yesterday. We needed a leading target at half forward. All we had was PJ.

Brad Miller will play next week. And deserves his chance.

He is still a certain de-listing at the end of the year.

No what we needed was a forward coach that instructed his FORWARDS to start in the FORWARD 50, not the wing. We got horribly outcoached, we do not need Brad Miller. I don't care how many goals he's kicked in the VFL. Went last weekend and he's still a spud. Just NO, NO, NO

If he is a certain de-listing at the end of the year (and he is) why play him? We need to play players that might be in our next premiership winning team and he won't be

i would rather see melb get beat without miller in the side. we should be trying new players....saying he is still certain to get delisted at the end of the season and still play him serves melb nothing.

miller has had his time. it's time to bring in the 'new melbourne'

The argument for playing Miller is that he improves the development of the rest of the team more so than compromises it by being out there. He can then get cut as Jurrah and Petterd come back to the side.

At the moment our marking targets up forward are Green, Bate, Hughes and Watts, and the resting ruckman.

I'd be happy for Miller or Newton to replace Bate (if injured), Hughes or play as the resting ruckman.

I don't really think we are playing short of marking options (they are certainly undersized) but just not playing well enough.

Agree on all counts. Assuming that Bate is out injured and/or PJ is dropped, a factor that would count against miller is that he'd be competing for the spot (lead-up forward and help in the ruck) with Dunn who was stiff to get dropped. Though sounds like Miller was much better for Casey. And it would be wrong to pick them both - it has to be one or the other.

not saying our forwards were great but i think it has alot to do with the delivery from our midfielders, not great

There's a very good case to bring Miller in:

1) Our three main marking forwards of the future will be Watts, Jurrah and Bate, two of those three will be out injured next week and two of our other forwards who can take a good mark for their size are Petterd (out injured) and Sylvia who should get dropped which leave us 4 down in the forward line.

2) One of our other young developing tall forwards in Fitzpatrick is also injured so he can't play. Still 4 down. We don't have any other young tall forwards to play that I know of.

3) While Hughes looks like a good trier, at 23 years of age I'm going to call that he wont make it.

4) Next week we should get Wonna back (who's one of our 6 main forwars IMO) and I'd expect Jetta to come in also to add some forward line pressure. Throw in Green to play deep (FF), Trengove and Watts to wonder half forward and occasionally drift deep we're still one down at half forward to play the vital linking role. This has to be Miller.

And yes Miller is a certainty to be deisted at seasons end and you can argue all you want about what's the point in playing him if he wont be there, but the answer is who else can you play there? Dunn will come in also but as usual he'll play as a utility roaming through midfield, defence and forward not as the CHF role that Bate plays, that's where Miller will come in.

Once Bate is fit then it's a straight swap but unless the FD try playing Garland or Rivers there which they seem reluctant to do then I don't see any other option.

Dont think we can take our eyes off the ball and that we are in development stage and have made tough decisions to reflect that

ie - getting rid of trav, white early.

Need to stick to our guns and keep building and lets be honest miller isnt part of those plans for the future so leave him the VFL. He was kept an extra year to protect Watts, Jurrah etc but now isn't needed and will only come back in and be the same player and get droppped again.

Everyone wasn't whinging about our small forward line against brissie etc so why now? dogs made prelims with brad johnson as there focus so shows the midfield have to lift their game

Newton, Miller, PJ, Meesen, Bell should all be gone at years end.

Dogs had Mitch Hahn playing the linking half forward role however which is where Matthew Bate comes in, and he played that role in the Brisbane game.

I agree with you that Watts and Jurrah are the future, but with Jurrah and Bate out injured, along with Petterd someone needs to play that role for the time being? It's got to be Miller, Dunn, Garland or Rivers IMO. Dunn they seem to prefer roaming around as the utility, Garland they don't seem keen on moving and same goes for Rivers.

I'm not arguing Miller is the long term answer, I agree he's far from it, what I am arguing is that there really isn't anyone else to play there, at least for this coming week assuming Bate doesn't get up for it.

Miller has had his go. He's played nearly 100 games and has shown he isn't up to. Would prefer Newton ahead of him. At least give Hughes and Watts 8-10 games to show there worth.

And yesterday We could have had brown and Pavlich and they would have struggled with the delivery.

Has played well in last 4 weeks included in the best in all those games.

Has earned his spot as much as anyone else from Casey a definite reinclusion to go up to Darwin.

You can only ask players to give you a reason to include them and on performance he has.

I think we've lacked leadership in the forward line and he could help marshal the troups.

Make sure structures are adhered to when we are under pressure.

He is also a hard worker definsively in the forward line something we've lacked recently.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Dunn was the emergency who didn't play for us. Which in a way makes him even more stiff if Miller walks in ahead of him. But I've noticed Bailey generally likes to drop blokes for a few weeks, then bring them back in when they've got the form, and at senior level likes to give them at least 2 weeks to find their form. So Dunn has areas to address at Casey before he comes back.

Brad Miller has essentially been replaced by Bate, who plays a similar style & covers the same areas of the ground.

IMO so will Watts next year as he still builds his body, playing the leadup role.

How long will Bate be out for?

Eventually I see Watts playing FF, or at CHF, depending on our team requirements.

I say this because if we bring Brad in this week, it could be a short stay. Probably depends on the duration of Bates possible unavailability.

Get some game time into Brad Miller, then send him up to Gold Coast next year. Play him next week for Bate, as he probably won't play.

This adds another dimension to the argument.

I don't think Miller or Juice will be around for us next year, but I also doubt (as I've said in another thread) that he will hold much appeal for GCFC.

If Miller has earnt his recall, then he plays......simple as that!

It's all very well to say he isn't part of the future, and that we should play forwards who are going to be part of the future, but half of them are injured!

We need forwards playing forward..........this whole resting ruckman thing doesn't work for us!

If you forget where he is at in his career, based on his form he would get a recall.

Let me pose this to everyone. If he comes in and contributes and we win, will it be worth it? I say right now we need another win and if he can make it happen i say bring him back and give Jetta a crack also.

I was going to say 'NO' but I realised FlowerPower beat me to it.

Miller's next AFL game will be for Gold Coast if we trade him there.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
