That's interesting, because I've been wondering what happened to the values Schwab's talked aboutwhen emphasising the importance of being a good corporate/community citizen.

Schwab spoke about only entering into deals with those who shared our values, and as an example, he questioned whether partnering with junk food companies when there's a problem with obesity.

Since then, we've had the betting deal and now bought almost 100 pokies. It doesn't seem very consistent with the approach Schwab had previously outlined.

Anyway, if that article is correct we're talking about stunning amounts of money. Assuming the estimates are correct, we have just made the biggest financial investment in our history.

Pokies are machines that are insidiously used by Governments to raise money

Even though they can destroy families and change people’s lives, (not necessarily for the better)

However in saying that they are a way for the government to disguise the fact that they are grabbing additional taxes based on a user pay basis

However imagine if a Government came out and said we are going to ban Pokies and instead we are going to create a footpath tax at the same rate as for the pokies and everyone who uses those footpaths pays the tax.

Can you imagine the hue and cry, riots in the streets protests and of course the Government would fall.

However dress that tax up with shinny lights, bells and whistles and guess what a great number of people accept it.

Of course that’s Human Nature, even puppy dogs at play show better restraint than some.

As for me, I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t played the pokies I believe I have earned APPROX $3000.00 from the pokies including a major $1000.00 JACKPOT at Geelong Cats (Felt good to take the money of them). But at the same time I would have probably reinvested the same amount,at other venues including our own.

The machines are structured so you can’t consistently win. The best you can hope for is to get away with at least some of your dignity intact.
