Forward line for Green

I apologise if this has been raised in other threads but I thought that it probably deservd its own.

Brad Green MUST PLAY OUT OF THE SQUARE FROM THE FIRST BOUNCE TIL THE FINAL SIREN if we are any chance to kick goals this week. I am sure many of you noticed that he was not sent to the goal square until some time after the first bounce. I think he may have played further up on a flank or something in the beginning. DB then proceeded to persist with Ricky P. as the central focus in the forward line. It clearly didn't work on Saturday and won't work in any other game.

Greeny is a sensational leading forward who has exceptional hands overhead. Aside from this he is probably one of the most acurate kicks at goal.

Therefore, he should paly as a true full forward from start to finish. We all saw the damage he did last weekend. Why oh why was he moved from that spot?

Yep, couldnt agree more. he has good footy smarts, finds space, knows when to lead, great mark, lovely kick.

He has kicked 15 goals this year already, he could easily kick 50+ goals this season if he plays majority as a fwd. The beauty of him playing fwd now is we are no longer robbing peter to pay paul, we have capable ball winners across half back and ball carriers.

Agree, with Petterd now most likely out for the season, Jurrah still 10 weeks away from senior selection at least, Watts not physically being up to it yet and the writting being on the wall for the likes of Miller and Newton, Green needs to be a permanant forward at least until Jurrah comes back. He's a very good mark, good lead and he's also good on the ground. While his set shot kicking isn't anywhere near as good as it once was, I'm still a fan of his over Miller or Juice. Keep Green forward I say, although they still do need either Martin or Rivers down there to create a contest in my opinion.

Roll the bloody dice on Rivers DB. He wasn't great down back last week. I liked the backline we had going. Reads the play very well. Is at the crossroads. Give him a shot. You never know what can happen unless you try something new. I remember Neita was a CHB for a long time until someone thought to play him forward

It was interesting to note the forward line 'structure' in the Brisbane and North matches.

At the start of both matches, we virtually ditched the notion of a forward line completely, instead relying on RUN RUN RUN to carry the ball towards goal and kick to targets running back with the flight. It worked well sometimes but at other times, we were forced to do circlework until potential targets could catch up.

I thought we looked best later in both matches when we left at least one forward roaming inside 50, giving us a contest if we were forced to kick long to avoid circle-work. As they discussed endlessly on 774 ABC after the match, backmen HATE the ball coming in fast. If we're running the ball fast through the middle, rather than slow things down and start some circle-work in the dangerous middle of the ground, we can get it long and kick it into a favourable position for a strong and fast forward to mark or at the very least, create a contest for our hard runners to gather the crumbs. Green and Sylvia are each strong enough, good enough overhead, and fast enough to do this if required, though I would prefer Sylvia, in the ideal situation, to be closer to the midfield action. Both of them are too fast for a gorilla full-back, and too strong for a running backmen to match up on. Teams would be forced to use a very good player for a match up like this. Dunn is another option, and could drift towards this position sometimes. Bail is also good on a lead and overhead.

There has to be a release valve in a run-and-carry gameplan. Green would be a more than handy release valve. Kick the ball way out into space for him to run on to and he'll win more times than not. And if we turn it over, better 30m from goal, with an army of Melbourne runners bearing down on the ball carrier than in the centre square.

While I'd love to see him present that long, I'm reminded of something Daniher used to say about Ooze, that I think is true of Green. If you leave him in one place his opponents find him out, and he stagnates. We all hate how some of our players have been recruited with flexibility in mind, but in Brad's case, he's genuinely capable of playing ANYWHERE on the ground and can dominate.

Don't get me wrong, I'l love to see him kick a big bag. But what's more important is that he's positioned where we need him. If we're under the pump in the midfield (which is likely to happen, at the very least in stages) then we may be crying out for Brad to drop a kick behind play.

It's one thing to plead for him to go forward because we're desperate. It's another thing entirely to stubbornly stick to it even when it's not working.

Agreed! Green for Full Forward. If that doesn't work, give Garland a go...

Brad Green is an awesome utility for the Dees and though he would likely perform well as our main full forward his skills will be sorely missed elsewhere. Granted our midfield has picked up in recent times so some pressure has been relieved, however IMO Green would be wasted in the square.

not sure having a player who is capable as any in our team of kicking a bag is wasting their talents. I reckon if he is not fwd it is a waste.

Trengove, Scully, Beamer, Sylvia, Junior, Jordie and the Masta Bate all seem pretty capable of getting the ball into the forward line. Davey too. No problems there. Just need a guy who they all recognise as a trusty mark and a 'go-to man'. Enter Bradley Green!!!

Totally agree. if Green is played in the square for the whole game it robs us of another player rotating through the middle.
