It is very necessary for the football department to pick a team both on merit and also to match up on their opponents. In this last match, North had such a tall list that we just was out reached everywhere. To not have another tall, even with Rivers coming into the side left Jamar battling hard. Whilst he played well in my opinion- tiredness must and did take over ,although he went forward in the last quarter ,took a great mark and kicked a goal...North had McIntosh,Goldstein,Hale playing in the ruck against Jamar. Also it confirmed to me, that in this match we lacked another very tall defender and at least another tall forward. This is a major requirement for our list manager. Your opinions please?

Well, first off, Grimes needs to be dropped. Playing horribly.

Secondly, who would you have put in there yesterday?

HAHAHA Whoever wants to drop Grimes is dumb. simple as that.

People have to get this through their heads. We are NOT a finals team this season. I am stoked we are showing improvement, but any person can see our genuine run for the finals will be in 2012, once Grimes, Scully, Trengove, Garland, Jurrah, McKenzie, Bennel, Wona have played 40 games, Frawley, Morton, Bate, Pettard, Jones, Sylvia have played 80 games, and Watts, Strauss, Bail, Cheney, Jetta, Gysberts, Tapscott have played 30 games.

ATM we are VERY young and VERY inexperienced. This season is still about development of our team. As Bailey has expressed ad nauseum, we need our youngsters to play games and play games TOGETHER

For that reason, Grimes, Frawley, Garland, Morton, Watts, Bennel, McKenzie, Scully, Trengove, Bail etc should be played every single game they are available to play (i.e. properly fit to play). That should be the case, EVEN if guyz like Dunn, PJ, Daniel Bell, Miller or Newton would offer more onfield in the short time. The benefits of these guys allowing us to be more competitive are nothing to the benefits of getting games into our young guys.

"very necessary"?

Did you not see Martin out there..?

Honestly, do you believe any of the tripe you post or are you just looking for attention??

Did you watch that game??? We weren't beaten by height anywhere on the ground at any stage of the game.

That game was won by superior pressure, tackling and run by the Kangaroos.

Nothing to do with the balance of either list or, even, the overall quality of the players therein.

They held more tackles, made smothers and ran harder the other way than us. Exactly the same thing we did against Collingwood.

I saw Martin- N0.34 -played poorly. Was you there or like the first match- couldn't make it.

Give up E25.

You're no match for his machiavellian snipes.

Not at jayceebee headquarters. Can't you posters read- I said may need to go back to Casey,if he does not learn decision making. And thanks for the compliment.

Our loss had nothing to do with personel, it was due to us only turning up after 1/2 time.

In the first half we seemed lack lustre. Unfortunately we gave them to much of a head start, too try and turn it around.

Im not sure Martin has added much since coming in, but may be worth persisting with. For me i think Bennell needs to go back to Casey. He can have an outstanding quarter, but otherwise not enough. Cheney has been playing well and wont be ignored this week, he will come in to play down back and release Grimes to the Wing.

I want McKenzie back in along with Bail.

So Maybe Trengrove or Scully if there bodys are feeling it, after the recent weeks, could be given a let up.

Note: I dont mean dropped ! Purely to give there young bodys a rest.

I not only want Grimes dropped, i think he should be cut from the list altogether.

Why did we draft this kid

His brother is better.

Maybe Tigers will swap

We certainly have a young list. I just don't think we are picking a young side. Yesterday we had only 3 guys under 20yo; North had 4.

Scott's point after the match was that North had 10 guys who've played 25 games or less. If we used this measure to select the side, we could have also picked Watts, Cheney, Jetta, Spencer, and Strauss from the list of available players (to join Grimes, Garland, Bennell, Trengove, and Scully).

Let's say Watts and Co. replaced Petterd, Joelmac, Bruce, Martin and Rivers. Would this lineup give us a better chance against the Bulldogs on Friday night? Or would we increase the chance of getting hammered like richmond?

I'd currently prefer to see us go for youth. We also have another 5-6 players such as Gysberts, Wonna, Blease, Maric, and McNamara who all played for Casey this weekend, and are all under 25 games experience.

However, if we pick a team with 10 players under 25 games experience, and we lose the next 5 games by 50 points a game, i probably would wimp it and bring back the oldies.

That dollop of common sense will be lost where its badly needed most.

And its r-e-t-a-r-d-s..And you were going so well.

i agree that grimes should not be dropped, why would you drop one of our cleanest players with the ball, i feel that if anything he should be moved up the field where he can be more damaging, but i would much rather see the ball in his hands in our back 50 than most other players as you know he will hit a target.

i would like to see bail be played as it fits in well with our running gamestyle, and i definately think he is going to be a star

You need to watch more football.

And HT,I think you should come to training. You may learn a little from wht Bailey is trying to implement-- re the match against the Lions.Go forward- go through the guts-- not backwards which Grimes stuffed up on many occassions. And at 36 years of age-I'd say I have watched twice as much as you, coached for more than 20 years- stick to being a moderator and not tell other posters what to do.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
