Didn't have a great game yesterday (due to North's disciplined zoning) but this guy, deep in defence is a waste.

He played a couple of games in the midfield last year and absolutely brained them - creatively, he was outstanding.

He made forwards run into space that simply didn't exist.

Playing deep in defence in bulls*** - any monkey can do that, hell, let's bring back Dutchy.

Get him out of there!!

AGREE TOTALLY-The mistakes he makes in his decision making helped to bring us undone yesterday.Whilst he is a great kick and this is utilized when kicking out, he would be much better utilized in the centre or on wing. If not a run at Casey to help his decion making.

Officially the worst comment of the week.

Why do I come here after a loss again?

HaHa, don't fret 'Jaded', we won't win all the games there is this year, there will be losses & we didn't lose by a blowout.

We contained the damage considering we were flat as an A4 sheet of paper.

So, in all it was a loss we were going to have, & by a smallish margin.

That is the positive, that we didn't fold up like a cheap foldaway bed. :(

What ever he or she said..don't come back.Grimes must learn not to kick back .He has done this several times before placing undue pressure on his other players. If he is not disciplined enough he has to be disciplined and that may mean a trip to Casey.

Yeah Grimes is definitely an undisciplined player. I'm surprised we didn't trade him last year.

His sideways kicking is a set play to try and switch sides to open up the wing or corridor. North did well to shut those options down for us and not allow us to spread wide before cutting back into the centre, but Grimes did what was required of him to try and break North's zoning.

FFS Grimes will NOT be dropped this week, or any week for the foreseeable future.

And I can't believe I just replied to this instead of posting a picture of facepalm.

Yeah i know, 33 touches and being our soul shining light in the backline, what a spud. This post should be about Lynden Dunns decision making.

Jack took a little while (as did quite a few others) to work out that you have to kick differently on the cow paddock (Etihad) than at the MCG. Many kicks from Melbourne dropped short and were at the players ankles or bouncing in front. They sorted that out eventually.

I think there was a game several years ago when Holland racked up 35 touches and took a dozen marks against St Kilda and Thomas Grant said at the time....'We didn't mind Holland getting the ball because his disposal was never going to hurt us...'

33 touches yesterday? 30 tiny chips into the 'dead' pocket from the defensive goal square? Any spud can do that.....he needs to be developed and he's ready now. Get him in the middle!

Casey?

Grimes? Jack Grimes? Number 16...for Melbourne? Casey?

Oh...my...Grimes!

That settles it.

Casey? Are you serious? Grimes? Grimes...to Casey? Wow. Just.

Wow

Grimes did well. North managed to combine a full zone with continuous pressure once there was a tangle going. The defenders had little choice but to try to switch play back and forward in the hope of gaps opening up.

North did very, very well and bringing our attacking, corridor game unstuck and highlighting the loose edges that, of course, the team is still showing.

Credit to Brad Scott as coach, he had a great day / week. Shame about the draft pick sooking before and after the game!

Any lessons Grimes may be required to learn will be learned in the MFC side. Mistakes notwithstanding, he's in our top 10 players now and won't be dropped, even if he does have the odd shocker (which yesterday was not). He's good enough to teach by playing at the top level.

Grimes at Casey? Bulls--t. His sideways kicking is an attempt to free up the other wing/corridor because the area he originally wanted to kick it to was being covered by North players. Remember he had 33 touches and 10 marks (?) yesterday. He's the most reliable with the ball in defence IMO.

he's just playing the game plan as instructed. North worked very hard in covering options against use, restricting run.

On the bright note, he gave me a great dreamteam score!

Robinson on the Channel 7 football show this morning said one of the three things he learnt from yesterday's game is that Jack Grimes is a "beauty" and "he will be a 10-year player for the club".

Yep ... let's drop him. Terrible.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
