Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I Hate this Thread...Jack Watts is 6'5 & still growing not six months out of school.

The Club has made one mistake, that is we played him in the QB game last year.

he is just out of school boy footy-LET HIM LEARN HIS TRADE (all year at Casey if necessary)

6'5 & still growing-He could be anything.

Get off his case & show him support.

I've said that about 56 times. And every time I was called an idiot.

why is that even a mistake, they were always going to give a few tastes at the big time to know what he's up against. Why not use it give us a bit of profile and gate revenue also

Like chucking a Dog in Front of a racing car-it was the wrong thing to do. He was used as a marketing tool.

He was still doing Year 12, he should have been played against an interstate side and eased into it.

Someone that I work with is very close to the Watts family and the real reason Jack has not appeared in the seniors side yet (which I think has already been said here) is that his attitude to his footy. The club is not happy with this and that's why he has to prove himself at VFL level before he can get a call up.

This would have to be the biggest load of croak i have seen so far on this forum. I have spoken to Jack personally about his football and his attitude is fantastic, he just hopes his MFC fans can be patient.

Do you think the MFC when interviewing him and others dont focus on their attitudes? It is almost if not more important than the players skill itself.

That's what kelly o'donnell said on the radio this morning. That JW has a fantastic attitude-some people even on this site do not want JW to succeed, which is why we should never have pumped him up.

It is very interesting, the Watts v Naitanui debate. Especially interesting that the Crows (apparently), who are bereft of ruckmen, would still definitely take Watts before Naitanui.

Naitanui is a very exciting player. He was pick 2 in a great draft, so I think that tells you he'll be a damn good player. He was picked before Stephen Hill at 3, so he'd better be a damn good player!!! As for saying that Naita has more potential, I'd argue with that. He's a very exciting player, but I don't think that people realise how good Watts could be.

Naita will have a great highlights reel at the end of his career, filled with high jumping, fast running and strange events. Everything he does is exciting. But is he more likely to win a side a premiership than Watts? I would doubt it. Watts is won't be as spectacular, but he'll put results on the board and win a team a premiership. Naita is X-factor, while Watts is production.

He's getting the ball 20+ times a game and using it well as an underdeveloped 197+cm wingman and people are disappointed? His time will come, and I'm prepared to wait as long as is required.

As supporters, just suck it up and put up with the media bashing for a little while, because eventually you'll be able to stick it up everyone.

I tend to agree. I did not mean to imply he will not be a good player, but ido think supporters are entitled to query progress.

Niknak to me is irrelevant. We have JW, and we have to develop him to his utmost potential. That is what this post is all about.

Please don't take this as any form of "Watts bashing" or asking too much too soon, or anything of that nature. But it's a little disappointing to hear the reality of what has been talked up as a 24 touch game for some reason. Sounds like Jack was pretty ineffective last weekend.

From Brad Gotch:

Jack Watts - Kicks 7, Handballs 5, Marks 2

Collingwood rolled a lot of numbers back, which made it hard for Jack to find the space that he needed. To his credit, he worked really hard to push up the ground - to find that space - and he set up some nice attacking phases for us, which we capitalised on the scoreboard with.

Well said. My point entirely. We should not pretend on this issue. The facts are there to see, and the coaches know it. Supporters should do the same.

Exactly right Why. Early days, early days. Lets make the call on Jack Watts in five years time. In the meantime, we should enjoy watching his development.

My younger brother's girlfriend's sister's best friend once sat next to a guy on the bus that went to the same primary school as Jack and he said the reason he's not playing is because Bailey insists he grows to 200cm before he gets a game.

Sorry, but it's undeniable FACT.

Hmmm, smells like the beginnings of an urban myth to me. I seem to recall seeing almost the exact same (as in word for word) paragraph in a thread on Demonology a few months ago.

It is easy to take a negative view , when one does not know all the facts.

We should have faith in our personnel at the Club , being able to select good players.

Their are many examples of people being too quick to take a negative view about things E.G Compare the attitude in the media to MFC now vs after the Hawthorne Game.

Things/Opinions can change very quickly. The best people to judge are those at club ,who work with Jack all week!!

And that is why the new facilities will help. I would assume that a state of the art complex would have a rack we could put him on and stretch him out a bit. If not we will never be able to go forward as a club.

Oh for the love of all that is red and blue, can we just give this Jack Watts thing a rest?

If it helps you sleep at night, believe we made a mistake, beat yourself and the club up after every game that Naitanui plays, and go on thinking that we are forever doomed to pick dud KPF.

Or alternatively, calm down, and STFU about Jack Watts until he is 23 and has 50 games under his belt. Thank you.

Good call!!!

The Watts anxiety is pathetic, and unjustified.

NicNat has a couple of highlights, and the sky is caving in!!!!

Relax people, Jack will be a beauty for the MFC!

It's about an hour's drive to Ballarat. Saturday 2pm, Eureka stadium. A nice day out and plenty of time to get back to the MCG for the big game.

Some people have decided that Jack Watts is no good after watching him play 3 games of AFL football as a skinny schoolkid training part-time.

Expert opinion.

In my humble opinion, a player coming across as having a good attitude when speaking to a fan is worth only a little above zero.

You're right in that Clubs focus heavily on attitude etc, but that hasn't stopped plenty of guys with attitude problems making it to the AFL. That said, they haven't all had the time and effort put into the decision to draft them that a number one pick warrants.

You should email that to the club. It is that sort of "out of the box" thinking we will need over the next ten years.

how often have Scully and Trengove dominated VFL matches?

Or, for that matter, Ablett, Judd or Hodge? Gibbs or Cooney?

We often give big men a pass mark in spite of an average performance because the delivery wasn't up to scratch -- what makes you think he'll get silver service in the VFL..?

That post doesn't add up for me.

Amen. Look at Rohan Bail's first few games of AFL footy. For a guy who never dominated a VFL match, he's looking the goods.

When Watts is ready physically and mentally for AFL footy, they'll pick him. He'll do a little bit in his first match, a little bit more in his next match and then in a year or two, he'll be tearing it up.

I might get shot down for this but I reckon it's time to throw Jack to the wolves down at Casey. Put him at CHB or Full back and develop his defensive side of the game first. We all know he has got the talent and the offensive skills to be a key forward. Not only will he learn two way running, his aerial skills and reading of the play will improve. Freo did it with Pavlich, he got names AA at full back in one of his first seasons and look at what a great all round player he is now. Just an idea.

Oh No, Watt, like Neitz?

Now I am a rookie Demon on this site as well but I didn't come down in the last shower. The last thing anyone in a family would do is say one of their own had an attitude problem.

We will find out how good or bad he is in due course.

I can wait.

I thought we drafted Watts partly because of his attitude to footy. Is it an arrogance thing? I they trying to tell him that things don't come easy at AFL level? Watts the story?

I still recall being at teh Youth Summit last year and Jack said to everyone "Be patient please!" - So I think he knew what was ahead.

Still, Its Time to put him out there or trade him to the GC (this is a joke, don't anybody fly of the handle)

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
