I thought Bartram played a very good game in the back pocket. Layed some heavy tackles and gave plenty of run. May be our best option as a small hard nosed backman. Still has many years ahead of him and hopefully with further confidence may cement his place in the side for years to come.

It great to see Bart's back to his first year form, but remember he sustained a bad ankle injury that year, which i think kept him out for most or all of the next season. Last year he has to deal with his father passing away, it would be really tough on a young man. I think he is a good stopper, but when the ball is in his hands, my heart usually in my mouth, but sunday he used the ball really well i thought, and did some very good things with his disposals . Go Bart's!

I think it is because we are getting better players into positions around him now, as I have said in previous post, the developement of the middle tier players like Bate, Bartram, Dunn, Newton etc had stalled, they have had a couple of years with Bailey, but last year, especially we were playing more to lose. After Hawthorn, they were told in no uncertain terms they have to perform, they are improving all the time, but I regard them as only a year or two into their development........also Bartam has to perform every game, he will stay in the side if he does as long as there is a role or matchup.......but for one he has Cheney breathing down his neck as well as Bennell who will revert to the role when we get another crumbing forward up and running such as Jetta and Wonna

Bate was 4th in the Bluey last year in a crippled forward line. Try again.

Some players have stalled because of the player themselves.

Bartram in the past two weeks is better than Bennell down back and I am not sure why Cheney is breathing down his neck. Not sure who Cheney reasonable matches up on as I dont see him with any strong skill out of his bag of tricks that makes him an AFL player. I cant see Bennell going back too soon given his past efforts there . Nor can I see either Wonna or Maric challenging for a while. And Jetta IMO does not cut it at the higher level.

As for development no matter how you want to spin it, Newton and Dunn are in their sixth year on the list and have shown little to date that they are not warming the bench for others to return or better youngsters to develop.

how can you cross a line thru Jetta after only 10games?

Just like I crossed a line through Isaac Weetra after 2 games...

I dont think he has the sufficient level of skills to cut a career in the fwd pocket at MFC and I think we will have better options to run through the midfield in the future.

i saw jetta kick 4goals for casey a couple of times last season,looked a bit better than Weetra, anyway hope he proves you wrong.

Jetta loves to monster the ball and his oponents. He is a little ripper. A little man with a big heart. In his first year he did very well. I reckon he is a versitle small, can kick goals up forward, can move thru the middle and his tackling and crumbing ability may allow him to play back pocket if need be. Jetta knows how to go for it.

I saw Newton kick 5 or 6 at VFL level. I have seen PJ win the Liston at VFL level and neither are AFL standard.

I hope Jetta does prove me wrong.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.     The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week.
