Liam Jurrah

I think LJs one weakness long term will be mental. I dont think he likes the 'mental physical' stuff - when your opponent pushes you around gets in your face and roughs you up a bit - all part of footy - but I dont think LJ likes it at all!

Seen it before once or twice, but it clearly put him off on sunday night..

Has anyone noticed that?

Odd. I saw a couple of occasions last year where people tried that on him and he didn't even acknowledge them. I remember in particular one incident. His man had been trying to get him involved in some shoving and Liam just turned his back and walked away. It stuck in my mind because the camera got a great shot of the guy (I don't remember who) reaching out and pinching Liam's arm as he walked off. What struck me at the time (aside from what a low down dirty petty and pathetic act it was) was that Jurrah seemed not just unconcerned, but above it. He really seemed to consider it beneath him to engage in that crap.

Still, we've hardly seen anything of the guy, and I can't realistically base an opinion of his mental approach on one incident in one of the handful of games shown on TV last year. It will be very interesting to see how he comes on this year and whether this theory turns out to be closer to the mark than any of us would want to believe.

I was wondering if the muslces in his arms had cramped up also. He didn't seem to be able to extend them...

Like all Dees fans I love the guy, and am praying it was a stomach bug of some description.

Spoke to someone who might know & he said Grover is a "tough" opponent, as in can be quite fearsome, & this may have worked on LJ. Also could have been a case of indigenous players sometimes not playing well on some other indigenous players.

Liam had a pretty crappy game on sunday...do u think the presure from such a good first season and having to continue on the same way this year has got to him...or maybe just a bad day??? thoughts?

We got rid of the wrong veteran.

And another 15 clubs are rueing the fact that they did not draft him.....Hmmmmmm!

Carlton might be. We don't 3 battler midfielders who aren't great at clearances but we do need someone to help Jurrah. A team who finished last on the ladder shouldn't get rid of their leading goal kicker who missed half the year due to injury, they need all the goals they can get.

He played a shocker for sure, but I wouldn't stress over it. He was actually quite Jet lagged and had hardly had any sleep the night before the game.

I also wouldn't take too much notice of Liam's pre-season form at all - he's a big occasion player. Believe me, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

I hope Brad Green Goes forward with him and Matty Bate myself.

I hope so too. Green has always been more damaging as a forward pocket, but he always seems to be playing higher up the ground. Bate has been injured for a fair while and usually plays his best football further up the ground. Sylvia has all the attributes to help this club turn around but going on last weeks game I wouldn't hold my breath and they should just play Morton forward instead of allowing him to grab cheap kicks down back, get him into a position where he can actually make a real difference, he's 192cm who can take a mark and has a huge engine. Why not try and make him dangerous?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
