Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Watts May Miss Season Opener

It is annoying when teams like Collingwood are boasting the fact that they have a full list to choose from.

Out of the 8 injured players - only Bate, Aussie, Bruce and Garland are in our best 22 and most of these blokes should be right for round 1. As long as we don't incur injuries during the NAB series then we'll be close to full strength in round 1.

What we want is team where as many players are fighting fit as possible THROUGHOUT the season, not just at the start of the NAB. Let's see which club best manages. It's list though the season ;)

At training last night that whenever the boys in the rehab group dropped the ball they did 3 push ups - except Watts, he did sit ups instead. If he had a back injury, I would have thought that sit ups would be more risky than push ups?

Are you a detective?

i went to casey on the weekend for the intraclub and was standing next to the whites bench, and i said to

my mate is that tapscott? (casey bloke who was wearing tapscotts No. 35) and the head trainer overheard me

and said hes gone back to adelaide for a week or so to be with family.... i was a bit confused as the casey bloke was

really skinny and i thought that cant be tappy!

I would have thought push-ups could be just as risky, if not more. There could be more pressure on the core and the lower back.

speaking as one whos had a reoccurring back problem since I was 17... I wouldnt be doing either push ups or sit ups.. Push up will have your back in compression..sit ups th eopposite really..Sit ups will be less traumatic depending upon what sort of sit up. Again. He cant have anything majorally wrong to be doing those.

Having said that..Its invariably best to keep your body and especialy your back moving..that is if its particulalry muscular.. Skeletal... I dont know..would have fthought imobilisation is preferable over risked stress.

If muscular ...continued treatment and controled eercise will bring it around..just takes time Im affraid.

If charlie was doing Sit ups his Back Injury cannot be that Bad.

Just take it easy guys-Take 2 BEX and have a lie down... :)

Just as an aside..the injury may not be to teh back at all..but the quad as mentioned..a case of referred pain etc.. As others suggest Im sure the medicos have it well covered.

After 3+ years of physio and specifically 'core' work around my lower back due to 2 collasped disks, i can safely do push ups and sit ups.

Neither is more dangerous to do than the other, if done properly- however lve found people are more likely to do sit-ups wrong.

Common sense suggests that the extra workload has put a strain on Wattsys back and its time for a rest.. same for me except its the injury, not a heavy workload thats responsible, so every few months i switch from a 60 / 40% - gym / physio (pilates stuff), down to 20 / 80% - gym / physio.. hopefully thats all is happening here.

Dont panic till you hear the words -disc or stress fracture-

Watts pulled up with a sore back after training a couple of weeks ago.

The club did their due diligence and put him through an MRI scan. It came up clear.

He is being rested because of soreness and not an identifiable injury (MRI is the most sensitive and specific imaging the medical field now uses).

The layoff is due to time missed from training already, ongoing soreness and time to recover match and running fitness.

Hysteria not warranted.

He is in the first FOUR months of his full-time professional career and doing everything right.

Leave him alone, let him develop over the next few years and you will not be disappointed.

This thread is unintentionally hilarious!

but...but...OMG we're all going to die...

hang on, what are we talking about again?

Seriously, why are Melbourne supporters so hysterical when it comes to injuries? Football is a very physically demanding game and players thrown into a full time regime after coming out of high school could very well go into some sort of physical shock and suffer injuries. It is not the end of the world. I bet 80% of people who post here have injured themselves during a gym session (or while out on the [censored]). It happens, bodies break and bodies mend.

Only when the words 'hot' and 'spot' are used in the same sentence, and spoken of not in relation to anything sexual, then it's time to panic.

Because in recent years we've had to watch player after player succumb to them and it had a big say in our sudden and massive decline

You can understand the sensitivity, I for one am frustrated as hell and if this is another year where we have 6 of our best 22 in the stands every week I might just cry

Injuries are sooo important, the difference between a side that keeps all their best players in the same side week after week and a side like ours who has been shuffling the lineup and having to play NQRs regularly is massive, just look at the Hawks, premiers to ninth place thanks mostly to injury... not to mention the impact of simply missing out on footy for the young guys, who knows what Sylvia and Rivers would be now if they hadn't missed so much valuable experience

The situation has to change somehow and it's not looking all that great so far this year

New article on Herald Sun website with new comments from CC re: Watts entitled "Patience urged over Jack Watts' progress for the Melbourne Demons"

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/patience-urged-over-jack-watts-progress-for-the-melbourne-demons/story-e6frf9ix-1225831562994?from=public_rss

Really Really hope he reaches his potential, its gonna be hard watching Nic Nat for the next few years until Jack developes and we get the best out of him (as per article). IMO if Nic Nat was from Victoria i think he would be wearing the RED and BLUE, and that comment has nothing too do with his NAB cup match, this kid would have went number 1 ahead of Matthew Kreuzer in 07 but was too young by a few days. some may not agree and are probably sick of hearing Nic Nat v Jack Watts but i have and alwyas will be a Nic Nat fan and just needed to vent.

Great post, i feel the same way. I would have thought more ppl would feel the same yet everyone seems blaze about the injury situation. The club doesnt have a great track record and thats all there is to it.

While i know there is nothing we can do now that he is injured and we have to trust the clubs "Slowly slowly" stance on Watts' development, I dont recall this sort of restraint being required for the likes of Kruzer or franklin who were both quite skinny and also taller players.

I completely agree. The comparisons with Riedwolt's first couple of years are now falling on deaf ears. Nick won the St Kilda best and fairest in his 2nd year. It sounds like Jack won't get to that level for another three. Anyway I just hope he recovers well and uses all this negative press e.g. comparisons to nic nat as motivation out on the track and in the weights room

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
