Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thanks for the good laugh reading this this morning!

Well, we did make it to training at 8 am but the boys were doing beep tests at the indoor centre down the road so we stood around and waited till about 9.15 by which time the players were arriving but we had to leave to make it to a meeting. George from 'ology and a small group of hardy supporters were in attendance and I'm sure some reports and photos will follow.

Would like to have been able to do a report but sorry!

Thanks Andy -- frustrating going all the way down there. However, I cannot understand why the Football department does not get the website of the MFC changed when alterations are made.Still showing-

O well thanks for your effort and love the new site. Well done to all.

To be fair to the club training was there but, as mentioned above, at 8:00am the players had a beep test over at the Community Centre and were scheduled back at Casey Fields at 9:00am. Whispering Jack and I had to leave at 9:10 to attend a meeting so we only saw a little bit of the warm up.

Fan and George from Demonology were there still so they might be able to provide more of a report.

seems like the place for a report then...

well, i turned up at 8:45, thinking the boys would be warmed up by then. instead, all there was, was an empty field and a bunch of cold supporters. but anyway, by 9:15 the players came out, and rehab group split off. From what i could see, it included bate, garland, wonna, blease, Davey (don't know why, but looked fine), jamar, spencer. I think i heard jamar say something about his foot. hes running, just not sprinting. Meesen and Johnson and Tapscott were doing their tennis ball catching thing. not sure what was up with tapscott, but he sure didn't look happy about having to take it easy on the sides. Bruce and Mcdonald were noted absentees, for obvious reasons.

Team was also joined by about 8 scorpions players.

A few kicking drills, showed younger players generally don't have the constincency yet of the older players. Though I was impressed with Strauss. In some tackling drills, Jones was definatly was very very vocal in his encouragement, leadership coming out strong. Watts copped a fair roasting, but seemed to step up effort after. Sylvia was good to watch. When he missed a tackle, i felt sorry for the scorpions kid who copped it next turn around. Its a theme I like from the older guys, if they make a mistake, they hit back harder again.

A few ground drills were done, kind of a set play to get ball from defence to forwards, usually involving plenty of run-with, and continued running, with plenty of goals kicked on the run from midfielders.

Before I left at 11, had a kind of real match simulation going on, which was basically the same thing as before with more intensity. From my end, Chip was taking quite a few kick-outs and was pretty decent at it. Warnock was involved a lot, and trained really hard. Then they got Strauss in on the kickouts. It was interesting listening and watching Kyel Cheney in this situation. He was very vocal, and giving lots of support and advice in teaching Strauss what to look for. He seems a guy who knows the game well, and likes to learn.

A few players i noticed...

Strauss- great kick, i like his style.

Watts- much bigger, good skills, should play a few games this year

Hughes- something about him... seems fit now, and really bounces, and gets involved

Gysberts- looking good, agile

scully- sprinting again, solid tackler, fantastic vision and handball

trengove- great running, finds space, good kick either foot

bartram- trains hard

bell- still not convinced

Miller- taking some good marks and running hard, but kick letting him down.

moloney- looks like he belongs in a nightclub when wearing the fleuro singlet.

Interesting listening to West behind goals. He wasn't happy with the running game yet. A few times he pointed out to an assistant how our players would run, then just about stop as the ball got to them. something i'm sure he'll work on. Also he wasnt happy with a few loopy handballs, and gave some good advice to cheney about getting off the mark without you, or a teammate being cleaned up.

question though, anyone know who the assistant coaches are? I recognise wellman and West, but not the others.

Thanks for the report Bringbackbarassi.

Interesting to note Cheney assuming some sort of leadership role. I still think he's got quite a bit to offer, but I get the feeling he's not a part of our long-term plans.

Good to see we're working on kick-outs. Hopefully the training pays off this year and we can eliminate that massive weakness.

thanks for the report.

AFAIK there's

Josh Mahoney from Port Adelaide - forwards coach

Mark Williams from Sandringham - midfield coach along with Scott West

Sean Wellmann - defensive coach as mentioned

Kelly O'Donnell - development coach

BBB, I take this to mean that Strauss went OK with the kick-outs as well as with his field kicking? If his disposal stands up under pressure, he could make a huge contribution in a few areas where we really struggled last year.

And Scott West sounds like the midfield coach we really need - as a player he was known for being an absolute perfectionist at training.

Just curious, was it Mahoney or Bailey or someone else who gave Watts the spray?

Yeah, I was wondering the same - did he stuff up badly? Or are they being extra hard on him (maybe following on from that strange statement last week about him having to get used to not dominating a game) for a purpose?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
