according to this Luke Ball is going to be a pie.

... L. Patrick would be a value pick @ 50

Unbelievable draft won't happen though.

I was told last night that were well into Taylor and Patrick at 18 and 34 so its interesting to see that Burgantron has them coming to us ableit at later picks. The same source also said that Luke Ball will not be playing at the Dees next year, so take that as you will.

Personally I would not be too dissapointed with Gawn at 18. The reality is we are in serious need of a ruckmen and he sounds as talented as any floating around.

I'm not sure why he's so incredibly certain that Ball will get to Collingwood. Maybe he knows something no one else does.

Is Gawn really 208cm?

I think from memory last year he had us linked to players at later picks than we took them or intented to take them. Strauss at 35 and Jack Reddan at 51 or in the 60's and we had every intention of taking him at 35.

Burgan does seem to know which players we like.

MFC selections as by burgan:

Tom Scully

Jack Trengove

Daniel Talia

Max Gawn

Troy Taylor

Liam Patrick

PSD Joel Macdonald

pretty fair draft result for the MFC according to Burgan

Here's the link to the rest of the draft.

Whilst I like it in principle I dont think it will pan out that way and would be suprised even if available that we would take both Taylor and Patrick.

Based on Hype and media exposure it would appear we would do pretty well out of that result. Not that hype and media exposure is worth anything.

Great minds think alike sorry Bub

not a prob :) between checking and writing.,. you got it up.. thats all that matters ;)

How come it says we are seriously considering Griffiths at 11 then has us overlooking him at 18? In this he slips all the way to 31.

I find that kind of odd.

Burgan is usually pretty close to the money and I like, on the whole, what he has predicted for us.

I would really like to see Burgan's actual conversion rate... and see his conversion rate from pick 4 and onwards, that would be an interesting stat.

put that lot into a team and we have X . Y and Z factors !! Thats quite some talent...and all well addressed to our needs. What chance the other 15 will be so accommodating to us is anyones guess. None of these things ( -drafts ) ever quite go to rule. The reactionary effect kicks in the minute one or two clubs spring early surprises. Still have a funny feeling Ess might be tempted to snare the Ball as that fills a big hole for them.

Gawn...gee.. big unit If Ball goes to red and black ..Taylor ill go white and black I believe, still.... we're going to get 4 or so very good players. :)

Burgan gets a lot of info from recruiters. I find Gawn at 18 the biggest surprise. Probably has some inside knowledge that we are going to pick up a ruck sooner rather than later.

Talia at 11 - His versatility is a major factor in Melbourne's appeal

This also sounds like he has been speaking to Barry P.

Lewis slides to Adelaide i reckon if West Coast don't take him Essendon is a strong chance

reason: Like for Like replacement of Lovett

I don't think Koby Steven's will slide all the way to 21 for North this seems fanciful

I don't think Troy Taylor will be there come 3rd round top 20-25 at least

Mcmillan Pittard is a bolter as to Max Gawn see the the temptation of a 208cm 3cm

short of Sandilands could possibley dominate the ruck for a decade in AFL

ruckman but he is still in rehab phase of a knee injury i think at 18 we are overpaying

I think last year there was some indecision based upon which club was going to pick which player in the first 3-4 selections. we know this year.. 1 2 and effectively 3.. 4, 5, and 6 could all but be penciled in as well.. its when you get closer to our 3rd pick it can get interesting. as per MB the picks are tall as hinted to by Harrrington.

Not long now ;)

Its not too silly a game plan given our limited current stocks

wow mr burgan, i think your MFC bias is coming through just a little bit... but this looks awesome!!

If we had Talia, Taylor and Patrick all coming into our forward line set-up in the next few years, I dont see how they are stoppable!

If Christensen was available at 34 still, would love to have him, pure midfielder, line breaking speed, ball winner too!

Gawn would be awesome, apparantly isnt just a bean-pole either (no van sheik!)

Gawn at 18? I'm not buying it. I'm not convinced taking a ruckman early in the draft is a necessity and i think it flies in the face of drafting the best available. Think about it - GC17 & GWS18 will pick apart the next few drafts, but they both will already have in reserve a bunch of capable talls before they even reach the draft. You can only have so many ruckmen before it is detrimental to list balance. Without knowing what young ruckmen are coming up through the juniors the next few years, i'd expect we'd have an even better choice in the coming years than we have now. Of course i could be grossly underestimating Gawn's talent, but i think there will be other players much more deserving of pick 18. But i'm just happy its not luke ball

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
