Ha Ha ! All the people who hate Rex and were previously listening to Most Moronic Murmurings , tough ti77ies. At least Rex tried to liven up, often absolutely boring, contests. Brian Taylor is OK but his fellow commentators are a boorish menagerie.

I've just read Martin Flanagan's article in todays Melbourne Age in which he remarks on the (TV) commentary of a Liverpool V Manchester United soccer match of a few years ago. It was in Flanagan's view classic commentary because the commentator "doesn't wast a word" , "doesn't get between us and the action" and "doesn't cheat on emotion...doesn't pretend to emotion he doesn't possess"

IMHO Rex Hunt wastes words, gets between us and the action (that is, it's all about Rex and not about the game) and most blatantly of all he cheats on emotion using as a prop, year nine schoolboy humour.

And of course he's a bully boy! Glad to see his Tobin Bros sneer at the ABC came back to bite him in the bum!

I'm generally not one to have much of an opinion on commentators. Sure they vary in style and quality, as in any area of life. Some of them could be the most brilliant caller in the world, but will still be hated by some people for a comment they made about the team they support or something they did 15 years ago as a player. And certainly different types of people will find different styles of commentary more or less appealing according to their own particular tastes. But in general, almost all of them can be listened to at the very least... Except Rex.

As others have already said, he spews absolute garbage with EVERY sentence he says and I can't work out what the hell is going on when he calls the game. One criticism that no-one has really highlighted here. The bloke does not even call the football most of the time. He is too busy trying to be funny instead of focusing on the task at hand. He sounds like a person with Schizophrenia who is actively psychotic during a game and is unable to vocalize coherent thoughts because his brain is a mess (formal thought disorder). And also, I thought the mark of a good caller was to allow anyone to tune their radio dias in and easily follow the game. To understand Rex, you have to have either followed him throughout a few seasons to work out who he refers to when he's calls out some weird nickname. What in God's green earth is wrong with (in English) giving regular scores, describing where the ball is, who has it and what they do with it? FFS, simple principal in radio commentary one would think. The man is a moron.
