What has Bailey done wrong so far?

That is not a rhetorical question, there are no right or wrong answers, I want to get people's opinion on what he has done wrong so far and why many don't want the recently mooted 1 year extension.

My personal view is that our ladder position has been perfect considering the fact that if you are going to lose 14 or 15 games you may aswell lose 18.

I have seen real, and substantial improvement in a number of players, and the introduction of talented youth.

I believe half a year of footy (2010) is not enough to gauge whether he can coach and builf a flag winning team. And it is effectively half a year if we have the same draw as this year and he gets the sack mid-year. If we have an adequate start to the year, Bailey will be extended around Rd12-16 and it will be for another 3 years.

And he gets 3 years on the evidence of half a years footy (2010). So 'the sack' or 3 years on the evidence of half a year of footy?

That is not prudent.

Give him another year right now and give him 2 years (or 1 and a half) to show us real progress up the ladder.

It's not a question of what he's done wrong, but what he's done right. So far he's made a lot of good choices, and brought through a lot of kids... The only faults have been the fact that CJ left (not, as it turns out, a bad thing), Brock up and left (yet to find out if it's a bad thing) and Davey has not yet signed. The only thing so far worrying me is that I hope he manages to keep a hold of the players he's recruited. It does us no good to bottom out only to see any player who puts together a good season or two to run off and take a big paycheck from another club. I understand that it's not his fault he works at an impoverished club, but in the end, what we need is a coach and culture that makes players want to stick around DESPITE earning less than equivalents at Carlton, Collingwood etc.

I'm behind Bailey 100%. But I'm mindful of the fact that in the next 3 years at SOME point there's going to be an Eade/Laidley match-day type that would be available and like to get their hands on the best young list going around. If Bailey shows no nous as a matchday coach, then sentimentality shouldn't stand in the way of our ultimate success.

Bailey has to have the side in a much improved position by round 11 2010. If he doesn't, how long do you give him, another 2 or 3 years? We simply cannot afford a 4-5 year era of being bottom 3 or 4.

The natives are very, very, restless.

The side has to improve or heads have to roll. Give him until rd 11 and assess.

Essendon have done the right thing........they DID in fact improve. Well done to Knights.

If Bailey achieves the same, give him an extension. Real nice fella - yes, great coach - ?????????

If you are under performing at your work after 2 or 3 years do you expect to keep your job, let alone get an extension to your contract?

Agree with your points because just with the new recruits whom should step straight in the team, the experiental work done with the players etc.. should at least win us 6/7 games this year. We won four, got beaten by a kick by Richmond(thank God- McMahon),got beaten by West Coast by 8 points, Rd7, got beaten by Bulldogs by 8 poiints, Rd 8,got beaten by the Swans by 18 points Rd17, when we were tanking. If there is not significant improvement by rd 11 next year- no doubt we should be looking at the whole football department.

An interesting sideline that McLean stated- was how long the drag was to go from say, the nothern suburbs to Casey, taking an hour or so, back gets stiff etc.. The club must look at that.

This is where this idea of wait until next season loses me.

I don't want to give an extension of three years on 11 rounds of evidence.

I don't want to sack a coach on 11 rounds of evidence.

This is what we would effectively be doing.

Give him 2 years from now to give us real improvement up the ladder.

Give him a one year extension.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
