Spotted Jimmy Strauss down at surrey park oval doing slow laps and kicking the footy with a mate. Looks to have bulked up and seems as fit as a fiddle. Bullet like passes to his mate on both right and left boots and I was extremely excited. Simply can't wait to see him play in '10 and I have a feeling he will become a fan favourite.

The bullet like passes comment makes sense, from what I remember about last year's draft a lot of people were claiming he was easily the best kick to come out of it. Can't wait to see him debut for the Dees, I'll be there for sure.

His shoulder was OK? Was he marking overhead?

When Strauss, Watts, Blease and co. are let loose the "DEMON WILL HAVE AWOKEN"

These three seemed to have a very good understanding between them in the footage of the 2008 U18 carnival.

so too did they with some bloke called Scully :) Same thing occured to me the other day whilst rewatching some footage.. Be the reuniting of the gang !! :)

Yes he was marking overhead. If I didn't know for a fact he had a shoulder reco, he gave off no signs to suggest it was still a problem. Looked great. My P.E teacher in year 11, 3 years ago, was also the assistant coach of the Oakleigh Chargers. He said Jimmy was one of the best trainers for his age group in his time at Oakleigh. Says something about the kid. Work ethic is everything in the AFL.

Was watching the Richmond game today, just recapping some big moments for the season, and I got to thinking about Aaron Davey.

We all know that kicking is arguably the most important skill in the game. In Aaron's case, he's small, so small he really should struggle more than he does. He may have lost a yard or two along the way as well...

But when you kick the ball THAT well, it puts other weaknesses aside, making them pale to insignificance.

If Strauss is a good decision maker, and can deliver as well as is claimed, then he's more than halfway there already. Being deadly by foot makes you DOUBLY effective. Turning a 10 possession game into one more resembling a 15 possession game in importance. Likewise a 20 possession game into 30 possessions...

If the stories are not myth, we may have a corker on our hands.

I'm quite a fan of Liam's passes as well. He can take threading a needle to a whole new level. :)

Great to hear. Was disappointed that he didn't debut this year, and am really looking forward to seeing him in the red and blue in 2010 (playing of hbf, and freeing up #16 for a role in the midfield?).

Well, you also describe Joel Bowden...so I don't think it's quite that easy. I am extremely excited about Strauss though. THat said, what I saw of him for Casey this year didn't make me that excited. It was actually seeing his video again from the U18s that got me back on his bandwagon.

That's why McLeod off the half back for Adelaide gettin 15-20 kicks is as good as him playing midfield with 25, on the HBF he has time and space and rarely misses.

I had a great chat to James Strauss last weekend at the saints / bulldogs matech. He was at the foody with his old man, who's a monster of a bloke ... look out for opposition sides if James ends up even half his size! Jeez James is a nice young fella ... even gave my old wrinkly mum a kiss when i introduced them (she was pretty happy with that!) Anyway, thought you might like to know that his shoulder is feeling great, and he's as keen as mustard to get into preseason. Can't wait to see him put on a bit of muscle and tear the game apart!

Good news about the shoulder can't wait to see his classy run and carry put to good effect

coming out of the backline/wing and pin pointing passes into the forward 50

Rip it up in the pre season Straussy together with Blease and see you in 2010

see you soon in the red and blue

Dissapointing first year.

Can kick the ball though.

Good to see some positive news on the injury front. He can seriously kick the footy, his disposal by foot is close to the best i have seen from someone his age

Well he did dominate the 2s of casey, but when playing with casey he took a while to get going a think he had a minor injury before his shoulder.

Though he showed some great signs, i remeber him running from halfback and kicking a goal from 60 out after dodging players and linking up.

Hopefully straussy and blease can get a ripper pre season going!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
