Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Bad thing for us ... according to the media he has nominated Hawthorn ... :o

Maybe not. $2M over 4 years to a 27 year old with talk of a bad knee.

How about a little conspiracy theory to keep us all thinking. WHAT IF Port know that his knee is stuffed and have told him they won't pay anything like what is being suggested and have told him to look around get the best offer and then walkout. They then trade him after a hard week of negotiating at trade week. They get a good deal as the week draws to a close and so does he. He and Choco apparently get on well. Maybe Choco is helping him get the big bucks off a rival.

I really fail to see how Hawthorn could fit Burger under their salary cap.

I doubt we'll be able to get a trade done with Port the only way Shaun is coming to Melbourne is through the PSD

Sorry I dont understand what you mean?

If Port wont do a trade then the only way Burgoyne can play AFL is if he nominates for the PSD on advised terms. There is a real risk that he will either end up at a Club that is not his preference or not drafted at all because his pre set terms with which he has gone into the PSD is not taken up by any club.

How bad is the knee??. The other issue is that he will set a benchmark by which other MFC players will be graded and paid. In his first year he would almost be our highest paid player. By his last year, I trust he will be at least superceded by some of our rising stars. Do we pay them $500k or more on the basis he gets it.

Interesting that he has said Hawthorn and some posters were saying it is due to Clarkson (ex Port assistant Coach). If that is true and I dont know that it is, what does that say about Bailey? Just speculation..nothing more.

For Port to be in a position to negotiate they need to be in position of ownership .... hello ... the penny will drop for the port fans & Choco.... ;)

You dont need a conspiracy theory ... Port are going to get shafted ... its hilarious if you read around the net ... there banging the tables demanding this demanding that ...

Sadly if the Judd experience taught us anything ... put your pitch to the player, if he doesn't choose you ... dont waste your time ... move on ... seek the players that want to play for your football club were building a football club culture not a retirement fund culture.

IF he came to us at his age I would be disappointed, to say the least, if we couldn't get 4 years out of him.

And $500k is under the odds for a player like him, especially at our club where we pay players more than they are worth because we 'gotta pay someone.'

And for those that say he is too old - he is only a year older than Aaron Davey. And I expect that Davey will be around to enjoy the spoils of his hard labour.

With Davey mentioned, it should also be noted that they are of similar quality - a quality will severely lack.

Delivering into the forward line.

I'm all for going after him and if getting him means 4 years over 3 years somewhere else then so be it. Picks 1 and 2 are off the table, and any trade we do should favour us as we have a rather large bargaining chip.

But if he nominates a club, and it isn't us, you can forget it, they will do a deal.

To be honest I can't see the club being prepared to give up enough for Burgoyne to get him to Melbourne in a trade... The only way he's getting to Melbourne is in the PSD... If he doesn't get traded in trade week, then he has to consider either re-signing with Port, or trying his luck in the draft where he'd likely end up at Melbourne...

Hawks need defenders more than mids and they only have pick 9 and Port want our pick 2 so they can take Trengove,NO WAY.

I'd take an 18 yo Trengove over a 27yo with a dodgy knee as when we're ready to compete,Burgoyne will be 30 and Trengove will be 21.

Choco gave Bailey his start in coaching,so DB wouldn't want to take Burgoyne for free in the PSD,it's business but DB won't do it,i would but i'm a [censored]

Rucci was interviewed by KB just before a 11am. Burgoyne has told family members that his preference is Hawthorn and even nominated the trade, i.e. Hawthorn's first round draft pick.

The Burgoyne camp say his knee will be fine, but those in the know at Alberton Oval aren't so sure.

I'll be not contemplating Burgoyne in a Dees jumper as it is exceedingly unlikely, imo.

Judd went to a team that finished 15th on the ladder the year before.

That he did. Saw the potential at the club - as well as what was in the brown paper bag... <_<

And let's not forget that he's just undergone a knee operation the result of which will not have been resolved by the trade period. If the club's policy from last year of not drafting injured players is observed then we won't chase him too hard.

True. Result might be known before the draft though.

Footy Classified tonight.

Hutchie says Burgoyne has walked, is done with Port and has a preference for a yet to be named club. He says the clubs in the mix are Melbourne, Hawthorn and Essendon. Caro added Collingwood are into it as well.

Pfft. They always add Collingwood are "into it as well" , .....sells papers.

I wonder if 1.75 mil for 3 years would do it with some strict performance conditions to give him another year @ 300K should he choose to play on. This could be front loaded so he would get the benefit of having the money work for him now rather than later and gives us an out if his body doesn't hold up?

Don't flame me on this coz I really don't know a lot about his situation or what ours is with contracts. I'm just throwing it out there for thought.

Front loading certainly would be considered.....no flame throwing here. ;)

SHAUN BURGOYNE TO WALK OUT ON PORT ADELAIDE FOR FRESH START WITH VICTORIAN CLUB

...

This is the guy I want in the psd, he would be a massive addition to our midfield. The article goes on to say that he wants to come to a Melbourne club with people he knows, obviously this could be a number of clubs but it's pretty common knowledge that he got on very well with Bailey and he's good mates with Davey.

We're in the box seat to get him as well.

With all the hard work the footy department has gone through, the administration getting the club back on a solid footing, I question whether it would be the right move in taking this bloke on. Look at Robert Warnock who had an injury and OFFERED himself around and we were upset he didn't come to us. GOOD LUCK TO CARLTONWe would have lost a year's salary on this bloke for nothing. Burgoyne could be similar. We also got rid of Robbo whom at 30 seemed to be too old. This guy turns 27 soon and wants 500k a year. Surely we should develop our own and bring up the team as one rather than bring in a centre marquee player at this time. This also could cause problems within especially with the young ones whom may miss out getting a game .Lastly, every tine we have played Port over the last few years we have won. I do not rate this bloke as highly as many others do. I say good luck to Hawthorn if they pick him up two.He definately is no Judd,

Port consider him their best player - he is no Robbo and he is definitely no Warnock.

Far out.. imagine being involved in the negotiations with players at MFC over the last few years.... Player A (I won't degrade anyone but I'm sure half the list could be named here) is up for contract discussions. The MFC thinks he is worth say $200,000 for 2 years but because we have to make the 92.5% of the salary cap we actually have to pay him $250k for 2 years.

We would have a large volume of players getting paid over the odds on there market and club value becuase as you mentioned we have to pay someone and we have to pay 92.5% of the cap each season! oh to be out of contract this season and a required player at MFC

It was mentioned this morning on SEN's 'Hungry For Sport' that Bailey is interested in trading for Shaun Burgoyne.

Apparently he isn't well liked at Port and has found himself on the outer of the playing group. No doubt he's a gun player but do we want someone who is disruptive around our young group?

Having said that though, if he managed to slip through to the preseason draft as Nick Stevens did after Port wouldn't trade him to Collingwood I would gladly take him.

What are your thoughts?

Hawthorn can't afford to trade for every player they've been linked to (Sandilands, Gibson, Burgoyne, Lake, Seaby etc.). If I was Hawthorn I'd be more worried about getting a key defender than another midfielder. With Mitchell, Sewell, Rioli, Bateman, Lewis, Hodge in that team, mids aren't really what's needed.

Having said that, Hawthorn have said they're prepared to trade pick 9. If they want him, they have the power to get him.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
