Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Shaun Burgoyne walks out on Port Adelaide

SHAUN BURGOYNE TO WALK OUT ON PORT ADELAIDE FOR FRESH START WITH VICTORIAN CLUB

PORT Adelaide's tumultuous year is poised to lurch towards crisis, with its vice-captain and best player, Shaun Burgoyne, set to walk out for a fresh start in Victoria.

It is understood Burgoyne came to his decision almost a fortnight ago and that the news will be broken to Port at a meeting between his manager, Ben Williams, and the club today.

...

While his imminent uncontracted status has attracted interest from Sydney, it is understood Burgoyne, subject to a medical clearance, intends to move to a Melbourne-based club where he has a familiarity with some of the players or staff.

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson was an assistant coach at Port Adelaide in the club's premiership year of 2004, as was Melbourne coach Dean Bailey. New Richmond coach Damien Hardwick played alongside Burgoyne in that team.

Burgoyne had corrective surgery on Tuesday on his left knee, which troubled him for much of this season. A mishap in round three, against Melbourne at AAMI Stadium, caused cartilage damage and bone bruising and kept him sidelined for 13 matches.

This is the guy I want in the psd, he would be a massive addition to our midfield. The article goes on to say that he wants to come to a Melbourne club with people he knows, obviously this could be a number of clubs but it's pretty common knowledge that he got on very well with Bailey and he's good mates with Davey.

We're in the box seat to get him as well.

Just out of interest how have Davey and Burgoyne become such good mates? Is it from Davey's time in S.A?

Anyway would much prefer this guy to Brian Lake. Shaun is an unbelievable football er who possesses Judd like qualities. Would immediately take the #1 tag and thus allow our young on ball brigade to develop at their own pace. Anyway lets hope him and Bailey had a special relationship back at his time at Port. Also wouldn't want to play along side Davey, Jetta, Bennell, Wonna and Jurrah anyway!

Absolutely. Quality goal-kicking outside (predominantly) midfielder with pace.

A rich man's Andrew Lovett......

Not sure about all this.He came out during the Mark Williams coaching drama & said that if Williams didnt get the job he would leave,he said he loved Williams & wanted to play for him.So Williams has been appointed & now he wants to jump?Several other things, hes gone in for knee surgery at the moment & its not the 1st time, hes had knee problems before. Also people on here bag Lake saying hes to old but now want to look at a player whos just as old & has had more injuries. Also we will get the 2 best mids in the draft so how many more do we need?Id rather trade for a quality KPP or a Ruckman. No doubt he has skill though & im not saying that i dont rate him.Been mentioned here that Sydney have offered him 1.8 million over 3 years so thers no way id pay that price

We have to be some sort of chance to get Burgoyne. However, I suspect he will want to go to a big more successful club. He will not see Melbourne as a club where he is likley to play infront of big crowds or play finals. Our FD will really need to sell the abilities of our up and coming list to have any chance.

We could offer pick 17 stright swap or pick 33 plus a reasonable player or two to free up players on our list. I think both could be fair trades. If Port says no he falls through to the PSD where we get him for free.

I would love Burgoyne to come to Melbourne but what would be the price for him? it would have to be at least pick 18

and a player you have thought....

Also in regards too burgoyne and davey being mates i dont no either of them personally but a year or two back when

P.A were playing in melb i was out on the town and i saw the burgoyne brothers the motlop brothers and davey all out together

so you'd imagine they would be pretty good mates i guess....

The link with Dean Bailey and Josh Mahney could help as well so if he does want to leave i reckon he'd be having a good look at us

also with the young indiginous players we got coming through i reckon shaun and aaron would make great leaders for the those boys...

;)

WHOAH! That is ambitious for a bloke with a pretty-dodgy knee and at 26, what can he offer a club if he breaks down?

Looks like trade week is going to be fun, but probably not so much for us :D

SBurgoyne is a gun.

but I wouldn't trade for him. Pick 1,2,18 are off limits considering he's 27. WE are wasting our time trying to tempt pick 34 as he

Should fetch a pick 12-16 i.e teams trying to top up for a flag. Hawks 9 too.

but if he falls thru to PSD, i would pay him 600K a year to get him. No club should outbid us.

On his day, I reckon Shaun Burgoyne is the best player in the comp. I'd have him in a heartbeat and I think he's worth every cent of $600,000pa.

PSD with luck. If we could miraculously do a deal with pick 18 and a player, I'd be delighted but I don't think that will fly.

with next to no cartilage in his knee? Talk to ppl that have no cartilage in there knee and get back to me... Roger James had no cartilage went down hill pretty fast after that.

Now here's an interesting story.

If we can get him in the PSD, definitely a yes. But we will be outbid if we have to trade for him, and given that he's not worth pick 1, 2 or 18, we won't get him that way. But hopefully he decides he's so [censored] off with Port Adelaide that he's happy to give them nothing and just walk out on them.

It goes without saying that any deal would be dependent on a thorough medical investigation of his knee.

Of course, you could absolve yourself of using any common sense and just try to start an argument. Oh hang on...

I would trade for him with Pick 18 or Bell and 34 or Jamar.

If PA baulk then pick him up in the PSD.

And we are paying Cam Bruce $500k+ in 2010, so $600k for Burgoyne isn't silly.

As I have said before - Gotta pay someone. There is a minimum to the cap.

And Burgoyne is not PA's best player; Kane Cornes is.

I just don't know why our club would want to go down the path of getting someone that is past their prime. I'm sick of mediocrity at our club. Paying him 600,000 a year you go to be kidding.... I hope Bailey has more of a brain and wont target any players under the age of 24 unless he can see them improving. We want players to be starting their peaks in 3 years time you would think. Make a grand final in 4-5.

I get confused with the Burgoynes. Which one was better? I know Peter has retired.

It seems to me that Port are downhill skiers and the defensive side of their midfield is pretty ordinary. I don't think I would want to give too much for this trade. PSD maybe but at what cost. $600k is more than any other player gets paid.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
