Am I the only one who thinks Quayle's comparison to movie stars at the end of each profile uneccessary, forced and cringeworthy?

I reckon they're ok. It's not like she's wasting a LOT of print. We KNOW who's reading them... Hun readers who read at a grade 6 level. It's all in fun. Besides, I liked the Daniel Craig = Scully and Hugh Jackman = Trengove ones.

I think you're both right.

Those movie-star comparisons are both simultaneously perfectly catered to the typical hun readers and incredibly cringe-worthy. I'm sure she takes a bath after writing each one.

She writes for the Age not the Hun.

Oops. In my defence, I didn't say who wrote it, just that it's written for Hun readers.

That's a nasty thing to say, since the Age has earned more respect than that. But a little bit of fun n an article isn't a bad thing, I think. As long as it doesn't push out the credible unbiased information.

Besides. Quayle has MORE than earned the right to be a little colourful.

The big thing I liked about his performance was he kept putting his body on the line and contesting even when his side was getting thumped; this is a massive trait in a player’s mindset IMO.

tess, thanks for that info...in your opinion would you be happy with him at the Demons ?

Do you really believe that?

It's not the same at all. Spreading a few rumours and lies like Haydo and Nudge do is a victimless crime. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's annoying, but mostly nobody gets hurt. Stealing someone else's work when they have clearly done the hard yards to build up the information, claim it as your own, then happily accept all the pats on the back is [censored] poor form in my eyes.

That's disappointing regarding the Dr.J&H.

I was enjoying the information too. Shower time.

After reading this article on The AFL Website I cannot see how Butcher is ranked the No 1. big man in the draft.

Black seems to have it over him in every way I would think.

I would'nt be surprised if Port Adelaide or Essendon swoop with Picks 9 or 10.

I am just hoping they dont and he slips to the Dee's at Pick 11!

Whichever way it goes, we will be able to have a pick of at least one of Black, Butcher or Talia. That will give us a talented tall. At 18 their will still be a lot of talent left and maybe another talented tall or a talented mid has slipped down. We really have the chance to get 4-5 quality players in one hit and set the club up when combined with the existing list.

More specifically we have spoken of "sliders" on this board but Black seems to be a "riser."

Certainly.

The upside to him is huge. I have seen all the KP draft prospects play multiple times this year and he is the most advanced in his development given his age and his senior experience.

His ability to both Ruck and play Forward matched with the agility he possess make him an extremely enticing prospect.

From the footage of Black I'am not sure he will succeed at AFL level. His legs look dangly and he requires more development than Butcher or Talia.

Looks to me like a poor mans morton. Not to mention you should always be cautious of draft "shooters" like Black who peak at the end of the season and were not able to dominate at the Nationals. Just look at Scully, he has carried that number 1 reputation all throughout the year and delivered when it counted on the big stage. By contrast, Black kicks a bag in some nowhere competition and then strings a few good games together and suddenly people are up in arms over the bloke.

No way, give me Butcher or Talia any day.

Black didn't play Nationals, making it tough for him to dominate them.

Even more reason to be sceptical of drafting him.

Can't wait for all the posters to say "blah blah jurrah this jurrah that". But I think one of the other posters said it correctly that we were kissed on the dick once with Jurrah and at pick11 I'am not happy to tolerate a great deal of speculation. Go with the known, seasoned quantitied in either Butcher/Talia if avalaible when looking for a tall.

He wont succeed at AFL Level? Ha Ha! Your funny!

He will prove you so wrong you wont be laughing. You will be gob smacked. And he will be in a Red & Blue Jumper. He will eat Butcher in every department.

What has Butcher done? He has shown he is a lazy footballer. And it shows with his kicking!

Big call. I know your temporarily obsessed with Black because the kid got a write-up today in the Herald and he will most likely be available at 11 but the football community collectively would disagree with you in saying he is a better prospect that Butcher. How many times have I heard it, "Butcher is the best tall prospect in the draft".

I doubt you even knew Black existed till the Herald released there mock draft with BLACK, superstar, going to the DEESSSSS!

Well said.

I'm not writing the kid off, but he looks like a far bigger risk to me. Perfect for carlton

We will soon see anyway!

Black ticks alot of boxes for me. And Butcher just doesnt do that! If you made a list of skills, endurance, athleticsm and reading the play etc. BLACK would beat Butcher hands down in all aspects.

Butcher cant even kick the ball! He would struggle with confidence and the mental side of the game.

I wouldnt even take Butcher with Pick 18. I would prefer a Carlisle or Griffiths and even a Panos.

Nothing against the guy! But I just think there is better ahead of him.

To take him with Pick 11 would be shattering. Especially if we passed on the likes of Black, Talia, Lucas, Tapscott and even Bastinac.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
