Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cale Morton

What has gone wrong with Cale Morton, he was flying not long ago and he has seemed to have stalled. He shirked a couple of contests on friday night most notably a marking contest (which the commentators made reference to) I think it was either the second or third quarter. I don't think he is a "shirker" but more he is lacking in confidence. Maybe a spell in the 2's?

Nothing to gain by playing him in the VFL, time to put him back on the wing and let him use his strength which is his running capacity. I'm all for educating players but you need to develop them for the position we drafted them to play. He is a midfielder play him in the midfield.

I think his form isnt so much of an issue. His second year and has played some very good games. Hasn't suffered any second year blues. Has a lot of class and is very clever..

But the big issue is his courage, to many times he shirks contests and loathes physical contact... Has to work on that.

He's a skinny 18 year old kid and you know what they say about 2nd year blues, take my word for it he will be a Champion, not just a star........a CHAMPION, he's one of these blokes who looks like he's got twice as much time as anyone else

Hmm I'm not so sure.

Cale is very soft. Hopefully its just a confidence issue to do with his undeveloped body.

Yes, Morton does not like the contact side of football, that's why most of his disposals are uncontested. We all know that he is not the inside type, but for gods sake, someone's needs to toughen him up a little. The best part of footy is the physicality, i'm not asking him to put his head over the ball when 'Thug' Hall is charging at him with his knees up high, i just want to see Morton toughen up.

He is extremely soft, embarrassingly so.

Morton is one of the major disappointments of this year for mine. I guess I was expecting him to really develop and no longer be afraid of the contest.

Have a look at Mitch Robinson at Carlton. He's a pretty skinny lad, but he never shirks a contest. I don't know what it is with Morton, but it frustrates me that he seems so weak and so unwilling to get the contested ball or take a contested mark.

The biggest let down is his aerial ability, in the carnivals he took looks of pack marks and his evasiveness and ability to get out of sticky situations were outstanding. So far with the dees his shown he can win the ball and great amounts of it though its those pack marks and taking on opponents that set games alight that i want to see out him.

Your right about cale. He has been a dissapointment in the second half of the year. However, the MFC has stalled. Not just cale.

There is little point playing someone like Cale in the 2's. He will clearly dominate and gain nothing. We just nee to persist.

Typical.

So many people jump on the Cale Morton band wagon and then jump straight off after a while.

I wonder how many other players will be under the spotlight this time next year.

I was shot at on this site for saying I would have preferred Cyril Rioli in our side. Everyone keeps saying, "wait until he matures".

He will always be skinny and I wish people would come to terms with it. How people get excited by him is really beyond me. Cheap possessions in a game of football seem to do it for some fans on this site.

Can people just wait before they make ridiculous comments about him being a "superstar" and everything else.

I am not jumping of his bandwagon, how could jump to conclusions like that, he has dropped of a bit as of late is all, and its not just people on this site that think he will be a superstar, He is Larke medalist and the fact that goldcoast real realy rate him and that someone said he could of went number one in his draft well you must not no too much about the kid if your not excited about were his headed.

I can't believe people here are picking on cale Morton. What is he - 18? He has been good this year with a few brilliant games. On Friday night, he played a considerable amount of time in the forward line. That is not his position but DB is giving him experience around the ground during this lost season. Let's cut this gut some slack. It was only a few years ago people were bagging Brad Green and talking up Brock McLean. Give Cale some time and let's support the team rather than bag players (especially the young ones). There is enough of this in the media with young Jack Watts.

i agree morton should be played on a wing, or in the centre. against collingwood he spent large amounts of the game at full back, and only went into the middle in the last quarter, when he got 10-15 touches.

against essendon he played elsewhere. it is all part of the player development at this point in his career.

disagree RE watts on the wing. i would rather see him played out of the square and lead up the guts. we dont have a full forward, and he is good on the lead - good pace, good hands, good kick. he wont win 1 out marking contests, but no one in our side will win those.

I agree on a wing for Cale. Which is where they were playing him earlier in the year. I really think that they're playing him out of position - perhaps to learn accountability or learn off players he is playing on. But he's not the only one that is playing 'out of position.' Aaron Davey who has been used in the back half to great effect in the first half of the year, opposition sides are awak to him being the goto man, the quarterback. Nullify him, they nullify the effective drive we had in the 1st half of the season. I think he can be just as effective on a wing or half forward where he is more suited as the architect to hit our forwards. Then again we might be robbing Peter to pay Paul by taking him out of defence and perhaps the Point Kick ins. If we had two, we'd solve that problem.

Watts for mine, if he's mind and body is sound, play him in the foreward line. How good was he's kicking for goal! He'd split the eye of a needle. Take note Robbo, Newton. If he has an assignment due or an exam, give him the week off. School comes first IMO. After this year it's all systems go for Operation Watts.

I was at a dinner recently where DB spoke and he said that Cale has actually grown 2cms and is now 194 cms. He said that ultimately he will end up in a KP.

However, until then he is deliberately playing him on the backline to get him experience so that when he plays in the midfield and gets tagged heavily and is having a bad day he can put him down back and he will be familar with that position.

Personally I think he has had enough experience there for the time being and he should be playing in the midfield. He has an amazing engine and he should be allowed to exploit opponents with his gut running allowing him to set up forward entries and kick the odd goal.

This is another example of DB being a very defensive coach and always looking to defend and "manage" losses rather than kick a winning score. Maybe that is deliberate but we simply can't win games with the number of times we get it into the forward 50. But I digress - sorry!

Hmm his age has nothing to do with his lack of attack on the ball.

Of course it does. One of the toughest players I've seen, Michael Voss, put in a short step when Robert Walls was coach. He was very young and quickly told he wouldn't get a game unless he 'went' when it was his turn.

Some players are naturally more courageous than others, but improving this aspect of one's game is possible, especially with more confidence. More confidence will come with a stronger frame. Michael Tuck was very strong, but remained skinny his entire career. I don't know what body Morton will end up with, but I'm certain that he'll get stronger and with this more confidence. That said, he needs to.

It's usually a players third year that they really start to improve. I expect Cale to take a big step next year. And if he's still avoiding contact I'll be the first to call him up on it. I just hope that Bailey goes hard on him. If he needs to be dropped now to show him what's expected then I'm all for it. And he may just benefit in the long run.

Mitch Morton has a strong body now, yes he's shorter, but there's every reason to believe that Cale will follow his brother's morphology.

Just hope he doesn't follow his brother playing on in front of gaol after a mark....

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
