from herald sun today...

....DEMON hardman Brock McLean is the first to put his hand in his pocket when it comes to helping the club.

McLean paid $15000 for a guitar by U2 at the MFC annual auction on Friday night.

The tough midfielder also forked out $10000 at the club's Debt Demolition fundraiser last year....

Well Done Brock... hope your mates helped the club in some way at the auction too.

MFC get some great things for their auction annually...

I didn't even know this function was on! Clearly targeted at a specific audience...

he's single, so he doesn't have one of those attention seeking "look at me" WAG's hanging off his arm bleeding him dry...

if i was single, earning his money i would probably drop that on a guitar too, just for kicks.

what a life. at least he appears to be dorpping the cash on good causes and in 'real life' stuff rather than thousand dollar nights on the turps, an gambling it all away.

although in the end its probably all the same, you'd hope he feels better about doing it this way.

According to my sources (a mate), he was 'involved' not a month ago.

i thought he said when he was on the footy show about a month ago that he was single... that's the only reason I thought this was the case...

Might feel guilty about his pay packet considering how the team has been going

He shouldn't.

His contract would not be based on those terms and he is not the main blame for where the team is at.

He has already put $10,000 into the Club of his own volition.

How much money does this kid earn...Surely he can't be on more than 150-200k atm?

I don't care if he's not that quick, Brock McLean is bloody great for this club.

I'm more worried about his diposal. I don't know about buying yourself into the captaincy but he should be captain. He has picked the worst time to have his worst year at the club.

The current average player salary is $220,000, or so I have read.

I'd say Brock would be on at least $300,000.

Sounds like the money went to a good cause either way, but this report - also from the Herald Sun - suggests McLean bought the U2-signed guitar at a Reach event:

At a recent charity event for The Reach Foundation, McLean paid $15,000 for a guitar signed by rock group U2.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
