Off topic - Leave Rivers alone FFS. He is only just coming back from injury and there are plenty of players that we should worry about before him.

On topic - I knew that we had culled some players but the stats are quite sobering. That is 4 or 5 years experience we won't have next year.

They will when we are a better team and able to pressure the ball carrier.

Value rise for Mr Rivers...

1) when will that be ?

2) you don't think the quicker Garland, Frawley, or Martin will be able to handle that long kick in ?

Rivers.

Daylight.

A bit more daylight.

Garland.

Martin.

Frawley.

Warnock.

I know who I want in the team.

Rivers is no longer the number one backmen he once was. I'm hoping that with a full preseason he'll keep improving as a player. Frawley looks to be the number 1 backmen. Warnock takes the hulks, Garland the mobile forwards and Martin could possibly be moving up forward. Rivers is the backup, the second man in. He'll end up on the 3rd tall when the others are all fit and playing. In my mind, he'll play an important part in our future but it's not the guarantee it once was.

Having said that, I'd trade him if another team wanted to pay over the odds.

You gotta remember that Tommy McNamara will soon be included in this list of young tall defenders

2009 – Potentially (and with the point of getting the total games lost to 3000 in 3 years. All games in brackets are a rough guess of what they’ll be at round 22 2009)

McDonald (235)

Robertson (230)

Whelan (150)

Wheatley (140)

Bell (65)

P.Johnson (60)

Buckley (21)

Total Games – 901

Great thread youami.

Would it be too much to expect a commentator like Walls might read this and mention it on Fridat night? Even if Gary sees it and mentions it on the Footy Show. Would be a big feather in your cap... They should pay you a commission for doing their job for them.

But this last section concerns me. I think Robbo will stick around. Maybe even Wrecker. And PJ isn't going anywhere.

Just throwing out a big number like 3000 doesn't mean THAT much in real terms. Don't kid yourselves. Experience, even that of not-so-elite players like Bruce, Green and Wrecker is VITAL to the growth of our all-important kids. What good is getting the experience in them if their growth is stunted. There's more to blooding a side than throwing 6 18 year olds, 6 19 year olds and 6 20 year olds into your starting 18.

I reckon, all things considered, we could win 12 games next year.

As for those three, I really hope they can, and I think they are all 150-200 game players but I have been wrong before.

Garland is out this year after 1 breakout season, Frawley is going through his 1 breakout season, and Martin is a basketballer-cum-footballer.

There is a lot of promise there but it would be a risk to remove Rivers from our list and rely on these three.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
