Don't get to used to seeing Jack Watts this year, He will only be playing FOUR more games this year !!!!! I have been advised by my very proven source. I am not to impressed as I would love to see him all year, but unfortunatly it's true.

interesting. the season will be over well before vce exams start...

is there any significance in the 5 game milestone?

Posted

Watts the big problem ?? So he possibly only plays a few more games this season. Given the reasonable assumption he wil be at least a 10 year player does the dif between 4 or 11 more games this year really have any significance. Better he develop and realise his potential rather than play out some sort of glamour "role" ??

two words... List management.... that or Common Sense !!

Posted

really..does it matter or not ?? this is a dead season.. MFC's future might currently reside Brighton... but its still just 2009.. who cares how many games he actually plays this year..I just want hit fit and firing NEXT year !!

I would never ask nor expect anyone to reveal their source.

I really don't have a problem with this at all, this year is just about giving him a taste. Let him have a higher work load with a full pre-season under his built and a more mature frame.

Not wanting to probe too much, if he was to kick 8 goals in each of his next 4 games, would he still sit out?

That is a pretty stupid statement by your source! What if Watts has massive games the next few weeks.. I don’t think they would drop him just because some source claims he will only play four more.. I am pretty sure they will take it week to week.. and unless your source is DB himself I find it hard to believe…

Yep, I can believe that, & am satisfied with this strategy if true. Young Jack needs to put on a few pounds of good quality Muscle.

This can only bring him up quicker for next season, by starting his preparation earlier in the Gym & bulking up more.

Before the preseason running strips back the little condition he would put on if he started at the normal preseason time.

I find it hard to believe they've put a number on the amount of games he is going to play... Perhaps they'll give him a minimum of 4 more, then assess where he's at... But to say he won't play any more than 4, what if he starts playing well? You give him a week's rest if he needs it, but if form warrants he plays for the Demons...

Cooko, Stupid or not it's the facts !!! Call it what you will, List management, work experience but He will only play 4 more games regardless. You make a good point, If he is on fire it would be hard to drop him, but just have a look at Jamie Bennells game in Perth a month ago and he got dropped/rested. This is coming from the same source (not DB) who advised me he was playing QB before anyone on this site knew. I was right last time so I think you can trust me on this.

I feel like there's a group of teenagers posting on here.

Many people at the beginning of the year thought Watts would be mainly playing with Brighton Grammar with the occasional appearance at Casey.

It's quite possible that his manager, Paul Connors, in consultation with his family and the club have decided to limit his load in what is a very important schooling year. Any games in 2009 were only ever going to be a bonus.

If true, I'm quite content with the programme outlined.

I didn't expect him to play during VCE. 2010 will be Watt's break-out year. He'll kick his first goal against the Bombers and have a few good games before being rested ahead of exams at the end of the year.

he is 18 so no big deal

Bailey knows how important it will be for Watts to have a solid pre season next year

I have no doubt Watts will be a very good player for us

Time will tell if he becomes Elite like some expect

fixed.

Expect him to play next year, but don't expect him to have a break out year. if he plays 15-22 games next year and kicks 20-35 goals I will be very happy.

he was drafted at 196 cm and 83 kg. has supposedly put on 7 kgs since he got to the club although is quote at only 86kg in the same article (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,2...4-11088,00.html). Either way, this summer he will probably crack the 90kgs, and I would expect that 2010/2011 summer he would be pushing 94-5, which will be when he starts to be strong enough to hold his own.

Also:

MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey says there is a definite possibility No.1 draftee Jack Watts could play out the rest of the season with the Demons.

Watts could play out the year

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
