Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Did you go the other night(s)?

Yup - Friday night - loved it. Enjoyed QOTSA but loved Nine Inch Nails.

I am a bit of a concert groupie and will just about go and listen to anything and everything.

Went last night and saw Kate Miller Heidke - she is uber quirky but is magical live. If anyone gets the chance I highly recommend her live.

Little story - went a couple of weeks ago to the Hi-Fi and saw Illy ( Australian hip hop) who was also sensational. I was right near the front and mid concert he asked "who was born in 90's - about 2/3's of the crow cheered. He then asked who was older from the 80's and the balance cheered. A little lull and I have screamed out - "WHAT ABOUT THE FIFTIES !!!" - got a mix of laughs and looks of WTF. I was definitely the oldest there by a good 20 years.

Great story Nutbean, and one that I can definitely relate to :-)

I will see Kate Miller Heidke at the Byron Bay Bluefest next month over Easter... that festival is going to be a blast, check out the lineup as there's something for everyone and it definitely 'aint all blues...

Haha nice!

I was there Friday night too, missed 3/4 of QOTSA because there was a grass fire on the Hurstbrudge line, but I've seen them before and was really going for NIN, who were excellent.

Definitely see her. Not sure what she will be like in a bigger envirnoment as she played a smaller intimate venue in Melbourne and made you feel like you were the only one in the room. The other one not to miss is Clairy Browne and the Bangin Racquettes. She goes off like a frog in a blender.

My other recent " I'm too old for this" was at Big Day Out. Some kids asked me for the artists times and which stage they were on. They hand out a small booklet with this info but I printed it out from the web page and blew it up to A3 - The eyesight aint what it should be. When I produced the A3 version the kids who asked me for it thought that it was hysterical.

Got tickets for Groovin the Moo - so many I want to see there - my head is spinning. - band I hadnt seen, the naked and Famous blew me away at BDO. Also love me a bit of Karnivool ( although I find Ian Kenny a bit uncomfortable to look at). My ears are gonna bleed listening to Park Drive then gonna get my big boy homie pants on for Illy and then dancing shoes for Peking Duk.

I know this is giving away my age but anyone else here into the Cure? Not likely to see them at BDO. I liked one of their albums ( and there is a story behind that) but knew very little about Robert Smith and co but went long to a live concert at Rod Laver in the mid 2000's at my wife's insistence, with a lot of goths and boy did that blow me away. Best concert I have been to, I knew some of the songs but was blown away by the musical ability of the band members.

Saw the Cure at the Bondi Lifesaver in 1979 or 80 (can't remember which it was - probably 1980). Around the time that had Boys Don't Cry out. Robert Smth looks a bit sad these days... still trying to retain that image from those days but his body has gone to seed... a not quite right look.

I was at the Rod Laver concert - played for well over two hours and were great but Robert Smith wasnt looking at that good. My gf and do laugh about the same thing " can you imagine Robert Smith wearing board shorts and feeling sand between his toes at the beach ?"

I go to festivals with my girlfriends 21 year old son as she point blank refuses. At BDO he made me watch Northlane - and thought it amusing to position me, a 55 year old bloke, before they came on stage, exactly where he thought the circle pit would form.

Needless to say - I barely got out alive and did require a change of pants.

( will say that I quite enjoyed Amity Affliction)

Do you like Avenged Sevenfold ?

In case anyone is interested, I have put my Bluesfest pics up on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tim.fleming.75/media_set?set=a.653998661302087.1073741837.100000758763064&type=3

Lots of questions ( I wasnt there)

- who was the standout for you ?

- Did you see John Butler ( I did at the Palais) and if so did he blow you away ?

- A few of my favourites - Kate Miller Heidke ? Clairey Browne? Saskwatch ?

- Did Tim Rogers have a good day or a bad day ( prone to having both)

- who was the babe on stage with Jeff Beck ?

Will answer as best I can. There was no one standout for me, but Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Black Sorrows, Elvis Costello and the North Mississippi Allstars all blew me away. Unfortunately I didn't get to see John Butler as he was on stage immediately before the Dave Matthews Band and so it was just far too crowded to get in there. Instead, I went and watched Greg Allman Band who were on stage immediately before Jeff Beck. My personal mission was to get as close to the stage as possible so I could get the best possible photographs.

I heard some Kate Miller Heidke but didn't get close to the stage as I went there after watching another act elsewhere... what I did see and hear was excellent. Saskwatch didn't really do it for me... good, but just not my "style" I suppose.

Tim Rogers I saw twice and thought he was excellent on both occasions. He is one very funny man and as a bonus he had Shane O'Mara playing guitar with him.

The babe onstage with Jeff Beck? I think I mentioned it in the photo's caption, but just in case I didn't, that was Joss Stone... she sung I Put a Spell On You. That was the final number of Jeff Beck's set.

The biggest surprises for me were the North Mississippi Allstars, Nikki Hill, CW Stoneking, Valerie June, The Paladins and the Backsliders. Also were many excellent old blues men and stallwarts such as Charlie Musselwhite, Jimmie Vaughan, James Cotton and Greg Allman. Also enjoyed the Magic Band (Captain Beefheart's band) and the Grandmothers of Invention that had a couple of early members of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention (Napolean Murphy Brock and Don Preston).

It was just so big that it was hard to keep up with everything. Had a great time and the camping facilities there are great so, I was able to enjoy it with no daily commute.

Hope you liked the photos.

Note to self - when the girlfriends son says " we should go into the mosh for Parkway Drive - it will be fun", slap myself hard 3 times and say " you are 55, get a hold of yourself !"

( sore and sorry)

Some great bands/artists mentioned in Hardtack's post.

Wildly different, but prompted in response to a post on the Daniel Cross thread that refers to "unthanked talent".

The Unthanks: Contemporary English folk music. Saw them on the BBC/Jools Holland one night, couldn't believe it.

And if your tastes are a bit darker … the mistress of Alt Country (or Goth Country):

Valerie June doing "Somebody to Love" - I know a lot of people will hate her voice (at first I thought she sounded like Kasey Chambers on helium), but after watching for a few minutes I was so mesmerised by her performance that I had to go and see her second Bluesfest performance which I liked even more than the first... she is a genuinely eccentric performer in the best possible sense:

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
