Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

THIS time last year, Tom Scully played for Vic Metro in the AFL under-18 championships. He darted through the midfield with enough authority to be named in the All-Australian side, despite being too young for the draft. Yet at 17, playing with and against boys bigger, older and, at that point, probably better than him, Scully took a long while to feel like he should have been among them....

Good article by Quayle, she is rapidly building a great reputation in this area.

There is also a small article on Butcher in the Sunday Herald Sun with Butcher saying he doesnt want to play for a team that tanks to get him. Hmmm..... he must mean West Coast no one else would think of doing that this year.

Mr Butcher, esquire, will bloody well go to the club that selects him. Big-headed so and so!

I know. You'll play for who ever selects you.

As for Scully, Paul Connors who's a player manager mentioned to MMM that Gaddy Lyon will no longer be talking about Chris Judd in a few years cause one Tom Scully will be Gaddy's new poster boy.

Didn't want to mention other kids name cause he didn't want to put pressure on but he's seen enough of Scully to name him.

I just read that it today's paper. And I was thinking the same thing, he'll go to whoever selects him. Don't get too much of an ego buddy. If you're picked up at all, be thankful to get a chance to play AFL!

Jack Fitzpatrick looks the type apparently. 201cm could be the ruckman we need.

Could come into contention I suspect if we finish above Richmond or West Coast but still don't win more than 4 games. It could very easily happen actually.

Interesting the comments about Butcher. I just got back home from the country vs metro game and was hoping to see Butcher do some good things and was very very disappointed. He kicked 3 goals (one was a fluke), but was very very lazy. Rarely presented, didn't work hard at all. Didn't look like he was trying.

No14 for metro, who i suspect is jack fitzpatrick, played a far more impressive game.

Scully, however, will be a very very good player. Started a bit slowly, but once they put him in the midfield, he did really well. His hands are incredible! Bruce needs to take some lessons from him. Will be perfectly suited to our game plan if we get him.

Nice article on Scully. Hadn't realised he was quite that small. You really have to be an elite ball winner to be successful from that height.

listed at 182 cm.

Yeah, I know. :) But I just have the feeling that the taller, more agile players, with builds like Pavlich and Buddy, will begin to take over the midfield, in the coming years.

I recon weve got ok ruckman. Johnos work rate was great unfortunatly a times his disposal was shocken, Jamar played very well taking good grabs and with the moose and spencer developing Im not to worried with our ruck division as there has beeen several team win grannys with some average rucks.

We must get this guy to our club. If we only wind up with pick 1 and miss the priority pick, then we take Scully. He is clearly the best player looking to be drafted at the moment, and he is too good to pass up. He is really really dedicated to his sport. By all reports, he doesn't drink or go out much, and just trains and trains and could've played state level cricket too. But he decided footy was the game for him, and has been working his ass off to get to where he is.

He is exactly what we need. An all-round class midfielder. His skills in close are phenomenal. His pace is great, and his balance and strength to break/avoid tackles is top quality. He has the best handball I've ever seen in a kid. Watch the youtube videos of him and you'll see some examples of his quick handball clearances from packs. His kick is also very penetrating and accurate, especially for his size. Depending on the teams needs, he could be an elite inside or outside mid. He's seriously shorter version of Judd.

We need to get him. Even though I think we need a key forward more, Scully is too good to pass up. Butcher is a big bodied guy playing against kids. He isnt being tested and is lazily throwing his weight around. IMO I'm not 100% convinced he will be able to do the same when he hits AFL level. I just don't think he has the talent. Scully on the other hand is pure talent, and is a small guy getting tagged week in week out and still dominating. Getting him in the Red n Blue should be our number 1 priority come end of season.

Added to people saying he looks a bit lazy it puts a big ? over his head IMO. Do we need another player that thinks he has a god given right to play AFL and doesn't want to do the 1%ers that go with it?

If the two goals Butcher kicked in the first were 'lazy' then I'd hate to see how he would have kicked them if he was trying! One of these was a ripper, where he pushed hard up to the wing to mark on the lead, then played on and kicked the ball 40 metres to a team mate and then pushed past that contest to receive the ball and kicked a goal running through the 50m arc. The other came from a strong mark, with the 'fluke' being a left foot finish receiving a handball from a contest about 40 metres from goal. He played at CHF and contested the ball very well, often having to deal with Metro dropping extra players back into his space.

And, BTW, Scully is very handy.

Heard DB somewhere very recent (may have been on 3AW), was questioned as to the two types of players who he wanted to draft in this years draft; he said - key position forward & elite midfielder.

Interesting to see who we pick up.

My feeling is that West Coast will do what they did last year and dive bomb to the wooden spoon if they can,

and that will give them the first option on Scully if we we win more games than them.

nah, i meant his work rate was lazy on the whole, not specifically his goals. He did contest the ball well and i did like it how he always judged it well and kept the ball in front for the crummers (how do you spell that?), but i barely saw him get past a jog after the first quarter, and was really frustrated because i wanted to see what he was like overhead (and just in general), but he refused to present for the ball. I don't know if it was a coaching directive, but it was really strange how little he did. definitely has talent, but plenty of afl players have shown talent is not enough to make you successful.

Also, do you know who 34 for metro was? played in the backline mostly. I was very impressed with him as well.

edit: 34 was josh toy. he will be a very good afl footballer. that is the first time i have seen him and i don't need to see him again to know he will be a gun. was 2nd BOG behind scully IMO (hooper for country was excellent as well) and their class really stood out. I think toy might be bound for the GC which is unfortunate.

West Coast will win more than 4. Just enjoy the footy and watch our improvement for this season.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
