Bennell then Grimes in rounds 9 and 12, watts to get it in round 22

i agree with this one, but not sure about picking the rounds but the order for me

Bennell and Watts will almost certainly get one this year.

Jack Grimes and Jamie Bennell will get nominations for sure this year. I think our next two most likely will be Maric and Watts. Other potentials will be Cheney, McNamara, Jetta, Spencer and Strauss. Not to sure how many games each of them will play between now and the end of the year but would all be in with a shot. However having said that we wouldn't get anymore then 5 max for the year IMO.

I thought Jamie Bennell was good enough to win the round 7 nominee. Bennell, Grimes, Maric or Watts.

I'd agree with you MelbournePassion, then again we are slightly biased.;)

Unfortunately Jamie Bennell is not kicking goals like the other nominees, and it is very hard for back men to get a go. Cheney, should have been up for nomination on his first game. Grimes will have the same problem, another backman. Don't worry we will have a team of em soon, may be not this year, but next year.

Jared Rivers did rather well in the competition in '04 though.;)

Nar Rich easily had him covered in round 1. Plus Cheney's games in rounds 2 and 3 were terrible. Out of all the kids he excites me the least.

Perhaps we could use our list management devices this year, which might go a fair way to securing 6 or 7 nominations in 2010 for the NAB Rising Star. ;)

I reckon Grimes is a strong chance to be nominated within the next couple of rounds. He is a classy looking unit.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Dees had 3 nominations last year. Can we NAB 3 in the next 11 rounds? We'll prob need to win a few games in order to make it happen. Bennell must be in with a fair chance, and if Jurrah lives up to the hype when he debuts he would have to be a smokey. Speaking of smokeys, anyone know if you can bet on who'll be nominated? Grimes has shortened to $17 for outright winner on Sportsbet even though he hasn't been nominated yet.

Call me a grumpy old man, but is anyone else kind of getting a bit past rating the rising star award? For a while there we were up there as having one of the largest ratios of rising star noms:regular players... and look where it got us. We even had Davey and Rivers as unanimous 1st and 2nd, and while both are good, neither are in the Cousins, Mitchell, Murphy mould. Yet.

Besides, winning a few consolation nominations in the last 4-5 rounds is hardly record breaking is it?

i get sick of it because too often the nomination isn't deserved for that particular week. it should be simple. best performance by an eligible player that week. regardless of how he played the week before. regardless of which team got a nomination the week before. regardless of whether that player has been nominated before.

make it a fair dinkum competition, not a 'lets include everyone competition'.

Grimes

Rich looks the goods in the overall award though

Agree. I might be wrong, but i think that's how it had been judged in the past, prior to the new voting system which was introduced not that long ago.

As for our nominee, i think it'll probably be Grimes.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
