With all these Presidents getting together courtesy of Jim Stynes being a fair minded Bloke etc I would love to see John Northey Bought back to the club as a guest or whatever. He did a lot for this club & wasn't that far off winning us the elusive 13th.

I remember having a chat to him at the '88 B & F. He was a really Good Bloke. With all the past players being embraced lets not forget the coaches. Just an idea i may put to the club

Was a superb coach for his time. Had a young list with a little bit of talent and formed them into a team of believers. I have a huge amount of respect for the man and the way he put that side together.

If any one could do it, it would be Jimma.

Would be good to have a get together of the coaches:

Ron Barassi, John Northey, Neil Balme, Danaher, Big Carl, Bobby Skilton...

Would be an interesting get together.

That sounds like an awesome idea! Just get a few of the former coaches along to tell a few stories and turn it into a MFC fundraiser! :)

I'm sure that John Northey and Co would have quite a few interesting stories to tell.

I suggest Emailing this idea and any others to the MFC here: [email protected]

northey showed me something i never saw before, finals, he was a great demon well ahead of his time, as any coach since done any better, it would be fantastic to see the great man pop in once in a while.

Glad other people feel the same way about John Northey & his time at Melbourne.

Round 22 1987 & the Following week in that first Final I was so Proud to Be a Demon Suporter.

'87 was also the year we returned to the Red & Dark Blue Strip. Thankyou!

Northey Should get a lap of Honour during a Home Game. He Deserves our thanks.

He would have been so proud when Jim Stynes Won the Brownlow in '91.

IMHO ... this is a superb fund raising idea. I would pay money to listen to this group of ex-coaches say their piece.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
