Spencer would be extremely unlucky to get dropped, considering PJ's poor work so far. I'm disappointed to see PJ keep his spot.

Clearly Maric is not fit. Hopefully he'll be back next week.

Bennell can consider himself a beneficiary of a stack of injuries.

More injuries it seems.

James McDonald out (injured?) and Spencer dropped. Maric added to the emergencies.

Meesen in for his first game for the Dees. Dunn also in.

I guess big Jake Spencer has been given a rest just to freshen up for his hitout against Troy Simmonds next week :D

Junior injured???? What exactly is it.... Anyone know??

I will be there on Sunday so it will be interesting to see how John Meesen goes at his old home ground....

Will attempt to give a bit of a detailed report on Sunday night....

good to see the Meese selected, hopefully we won't be exposed in the ruck too much this week like we have been in the past...

Yeah.... Meesen shouldn't be too exposed on Sunday.... He's only going up against one of the best ruck combinations in the league... If not THE best....

I'm sure Brogan and Lade will go easy on him....

:P :P

What a joke... we just can't catch a break with the injuries... i could see the silver lining with most of our players bar three seniors all back playing in either seniors or vfl within the next three weeks or so, but seems to be a big name player going down every week. Is this something to do with the fitness coach, or just plain luck, or lack there of?

ha, yeah, big challenge for him at the centre bounces...

i should clarify what I meant and say that meesen's running ability will hopefully make the Port ruckman a little more accountable around the ground... the last 2 matches Macintosh and Fraser just ran off him, paid him no respect, and they really hurt us... hopefully the meese can pose enough of a threat to make them somewhat accountable...

PJ better be accountable this week..... Surely he cannot get away with another game where he has no idea where his opposition player is?!?!?!

It's partly luck and partly the resources the club has at its disposal i.e the money, equipment and people necessary to diagnose and treat your players. Unfortunately, we're behind some of the more well-heeled clubs.

Melbourne football manager Craig Notman said the Demons did not want to take risks with "Junior", who had experienced tightness in the lower back and hamstring, on the interstate trip.

"After training yesterday he just pulled up a bit tight," Notman said.

"He was assessed by the medical staff and they have decided to give him the break.

"We have probably erred on the side of caution, but with the travel we have decided to give him a rest."

List management, aka tanking!

And Jetta and Bennell are still playing. We obviously have nobody available from Casey.

But seriously, how is it that the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, North Melbourne etc.. have their best 22 in the side while we are continually fielding below strength sides.

Older players take longer for muscle tears: Paul Wheatley – Calf – Test, Matthew Whelan – Calf – 1-2 weeks, Russell Robertson – Achilles – Test

Pre-existing condition: Jack Grimes – Back – 3 Weeks

Broken bones are hardly something staff can prevent, only catch before they become worse (in the case of stress fractures): Daniel Bell – Broken Thumb – 3 weeks, Mark Jamar – Foot – 6 weeks, Colin Garland - Foot - Season

A bloke doing an ankle: James Strauss – Ankle – 1 week

Poor management: Austin Wonaeamirri – Hamstring – 3 weeks (was brought back too early and reinjured at training)

Read into my groups what you will, but sometimes you just have bad luck.

Or we could try and be positive and hope that we get all of our injury dramas now while we are no chance and have a completely injury free 2012 when we make our tilt.

For starters champ, last time I checked, opinions were like a***holes. Everyones got one! And heres mine. In the 30 years I have followed the Melbourne Football Club, it is the worst team I have seen named. Now thats not to say i'm writing off any kids. I'm glad there playing them. But we have too many list cloggers, under achieving, promise so much deliver so little, players atm, those kids have little or no support out in the middle. At least around 1997, we had Schwarz, Neitz, Viney, Stynes, Lyon etc. Is there anyone like that playing for us at the moment?

You say that now, but you never exactly know whats gonna happen to a football player. In 2006, no one would of thought Lance Franklin would kick 100 goals in 2008. His improvement was remarkable. It can still happen to a MFC player. Anyone of our young players on our list can still become a champion. Apart from Newton. Joking. At the moment there is really no one like Schwarz, Neitz, Viney, Stynes, Lyon playing for at the moment. True fact. But there still could be in the future. Just got to be Patient.

Absolutely. But its not the kids I worry about. They'll be good for us in the future. Its our middle to top rung players that I think are just not up to it.

Yeah good point.

One year we'll be finally injury free, and be able to challenge for finals.

Exactly how far are we behind other clubs granted we are not as big. Having achieved good sponsorship recently is it the corporate dollars or match day functions we still require to enable more equipment etc?

Yeah your right there, but over time the players that arent up to it will be gone and the new breed of youngsters will be our middle to top rung players. >>Watts,Morton and Grimes.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
