With the shockng injury to Col Garland, many believe that its a given that Shane Valenti will be elevated this week.

For good reason too, Valenti was more than solid at the level last year, and will no doubt be a good addition to the midfield rotation.

However, there are a few murmors that perhaps due to the make up of the side, and the lack of forward options atm, that Trent Zomer may be given the chance to show his worth at senior level.

There is talk that he may get that chance, or at least be considered.

Zomer is a KPP, with great hands and a good solid taregt up forward.

Alot will depend on how he perfoms tomorrow @ Casey, but I for one feel maybe its worth a go.

While I also feel it would be extremely hard not to promote Valenti, due to his performance last year, at the end of the day its about the big picture. We have plenty of mids to go around for now, KPP's is what we need, especially players who can take a grab and present an option up forward.

SO, perhaps its not so clear cut? Valenti certainly deserves it, but the circumstances (Jamar returning in 5-6 weeks, Spencer to most likely stay on) may permit Zomer to be given a go.

If we had a spot open permanently, Valenti would be a lock, but, since its only for a few weeks, it could mean that we may take a gamble.

We'll see, either way, its a small plus out of a terrible loss.

You definitely make a good argument for Zomer. It could well see Zomer being promoted for Garland on the LTI.

Would love to see Zomer given a chance, but he really hasn't done much to prove himself. He would have to have a really good game tommorow to go ahead of Valenti.

Take Neither.

Valenti is more of what we have in spades but dont need. Zomer needs to show he can actually compete at VFL level.

Would I play either Valenti or Zomer in the AFL atm? No way so why elevate them???

Jamar is back in 5 to 6 weeks.

Lets move on.

Valenti will get promoted. Whether or not that's in the best interest of the club remains to be seen, but Zomer hasn't shown enough at senior VFL level to be considered yet. VFL reserves are a long way behind the AFL.

I don't think either will be promoted just yet. Spencer to stay on the senior list (for Garland) once Jamar returns. Valenti and Zomer can battle it out at Casey for the mid-year elevation. I still think Valenti is good enough to be best 22, but as has been stated, we don't require another inside midfielder at this stage.

Zomer had a decent preseason and ONE good intra club practice match. They are now trying him down back at a time when we are in desperate need of tall marking forwards.

Promote Zomer ......you must be joking!

There's no point promoting a rookie for the sake of it.

Until they're ready to come into the senior team all our rookies should remain as rookies.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
