Just throwing this out there for discussion.

What if the club took out a full page ad in the Age ( one of our sponsors ) with the name of every member from 2008 and every new member in 09 so far, stating that these members would all support our sponsors and seeking further ones.

If it was smartly worded it would capture the attention. It may assist with the chase for a major sponsor showing we are somewhat innovative and certainly help with minor ones.

If the Age threw it in it would cost nothing and if we did it nationwide through them it would not be a lot.

Maybe a picture of the team could be included with a caption something like " these guys want to win for you".

What do Demonlanders think of this idea?

Seems much too childish to work. Large corporations won't be won by a picture and a slogan saying "these guys want to win for you".

Interested or potential sponsors would already know enough about the club and its situation to make a decision.

Potential sponsors are interested in exposure for their brand, that means fta viewing and blockbuster games. I just don't think a one page advert in a newspaper will do it. The message we need to sell is a future success.

Sounds a bit like begging to me, to attract a major sponsor we want to present a strong, professional brand

Many ideas.. really..MANY ideas were proposed during the summit and I would suppose they have been looked at /are looking at. I know I sugggested soe and they were taken on board. But Rome isnt built ina day ...nor are relationships with possible suitors and sponsors. For the time being I have faih in the gusto and enthusiasm ofthe current board to flesh out any possibilities..and yet even so it will have to run the gauntlet of the AFLs' "protectionist" stance re its own revenue streams..After all the AFL says one thing and does another !!

Id rather we didnt seem too desperate even if we are to some extent..After all who wants their name on a bunch of desperados ??

We offer tremendous exposure over a journey for an astute business wishing to get into the Oz market..just as LG did many years back.

Id only be truly concerned if no logo was in place by the season proper. even a temp sponsor for NAB is ok by me..and in that vein if only a 1-2 year deal can be had in the interim..so be it.. In a years time folk will be clammering to get on our bandwagon :)

The only sponsor that i've supported has been the Age, and that's because I was already an Age reader, and the deal they're offering members is too good to pass up.

Companies are smart enough to realise that the take-up rate of whatever product they have to offer, will only be a small percentage of our membership.

And as others have pointed out, it reeks of desperation.

i agree with 45 hotdog, we dont want to sell ourselves short, and we dont want to beg,but on the other hand we havnt got a strong brand, at the moment,it sort of catch 22,sometimes u have to take whats there.

I agree; I don't think an ad in The Age would attract potential sponsors. We've just got to be able to convince them of future success, such that we'll be getting prime time fixtures, thus ensuring a good deal for a sponsor. Without that, we're going to find it difficult.

We would then resemble naked Ethiopian beggars holding plates, and being surrounded by disease laden insects. I may be wrong but that would not be good for the clubs image.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
