Any news out there? Wonder if there will be any delistings.

Ed: I will take a punt and reckon that Whelan & Moloney may be retired/delisted. We need more picks in this draft - maybe get them again in PSD if nothing better.

I think the draft implications have been covered haven't they? Presently we will be drafting/promoting 7 players, assuming chop chop is given the chop chop.

Thats, say, 5 National Draft selections, 1 PSD pick, and 1 promotion (which, btw, is no certainty to occur, given Wonna and Valenti are the two likely suspects).

Unless we are aiming to reduce our playing list, I can't seriously see us tossing two proven, senior, AFL performers for what will be 5th, 6th or 7th round national draft choices, or 2nd/3rd round PSD choices... all of which are extremely underwhelming, to say the least.

Don't think any of those blokes will get the arse, though Moloney and Dunn would be skating on the thinnest ice.

To make a judgement on whether a player should be delisted you have to ask questions

Is he capable of pressing for senior selection going forward

Somone like Jake Spencer for example is a work in progess and has time to reach that standard but someone like John Meeson who was brought to the club and has already reached the maturity and physical status to be judged properly has less time to reach the coaches expectations

Another important point that so many posters ignore as they are only interested in the on field results and nothing else is does the player meet the culture standards of the club off the field

Some supporters rate Carroll for example is in our best 22 i do think his off field behaviour soon to be judged by the club could set a standard going forward if the correct decison isnt made

I am sure that Dean Bailey is the type of coach that selects players on currect demonstrated ability and form rather than reputation and past glory aka Yze and White

It will be interesting what becomes of some of our fringe and borderline players and the future of carrolll in the coming weeks

Lord, you're right.

Well thats an unfortunate lock I suppose. If his cult status was predicated on the right reasons, ie. his footballing ability, rather than about 1.5 good games and a few exhuberant goal celebrations, I could understand it.

Not a write off by any means, but hes still got a long way to go before he justifies his (likely) place on the list. Fitness could well be a huge factor.

Moloney was promoted to the leadership group late last year there is no chance he'll just get delisted.

Carroll would have to be the only one in danger.

Dunn should be fine, he's been doing the job the coach has asked of him, although it would be nice to see him be a bit more counterattacking this coming season.

Connolly has said on a number of occassions that the Club would be seeking to have 6 to 7 selections in the draft.

At present we have picks 1,17,19,35,51,67 and PSD#1. If Carroll is to be removed from the list, I would suggest that the Club would have to get AFL approval to replace him on the list in 2009.

If that's the case then for starters we should probably elevate Wona on pick 67. Wonna has a number of challenges ahead of him in 2009. However, I am not sure why Diablo is cutting him down so harshly. On no pre season and limited fitness he put in a credible 2008. I think everyone realises he needs a greater fitness and has challenges ahead. Lets see how he will stand up.

I cant see any players being delisted at this point. However, I would suggest that the re signing of a number of players will be on 1 to 2 year terms on modest dollars.

Moloney and Dunn are not on thin ice but they do have to perform at a far higher standard this year. Its now Dunn's fifth year of AFL coming up and his progress to date has been lukewarm. He has yet to nail a position as his own and its not the Coaches fault. Moloney needs to show he can commit to the team plan, maintain fitness and become more than a one dimensional player.

No there is a snow flakes chance in hell that Moloney, Dunn or Whelan will be delisted/asked to retire. Before injury Moloney was playing his best football he has for this club, Dunn was asked to do a job he had never done before by the coach, and although he got touched up a few times he certainly advanced in the role, and as for Whelan he is our general down back and although he is on the older side for and AFL player he is still vital for our teams make up and balance

Suggesting Whelan be delisted is among the stupidist ideas I've heard. He is tough, can tackle properly, is rarely beaten on-on-one, and hits targets when he gets rid of the pill.

If our policy is not to draft a recycled player in the PSD, a late draft pick in no different to the 1st pick in the PSD. There have been a few gems that go through to the rookie draft, so I'd be happy to take the punt and delist Bell. But it's not going to happen.

Agree with all but Dunn. I think he could become a decent tagger. He did some good jobs this year (e.g. on Cooney), but he needs to learn to take his opposition forward if/when he has a height advantage (e.g. Harvey)

Edit: actually, there's no guarantee that a late draft pick won't be better than Bell. That's a 50-50.

None of these guys will be delisted. Once Carroll is paid out and they promote Wonna they'll leave Valentti & Spencer on the rookie list and use picks 1,17,19,35 and 51 in the national draft and use pick 1 in the PSD.

Started this topic because I was wondering why these players hadn't been re-signed.

But it could be they (1 or more) are in disagreement re $'s and/or years, and might elect to go into the PSD.

I think Dunn's potential as a forward is over-rated.

In his first few games he looked like a natural forward in terms of game sense, but I don't see where he fits in a forward structure.

Is he the pacey crumbing type that applies pressure?

How about the KPF we're after?

Is he a hard-running hit-up high forward?

I think that if he's going to make it, it'll be as a running type.

What Dunn could offer as a forward outweighs his benefit as a tagger.
