McNamee's plan was about trying to regenerate our finances by acquiring a marketable player like Brown. Which is exactly what Carlton did with Judd. Don't be naive to think that Carlton's motivation to get Judd was purely driven by on-field improvement.

And I didn't say that Prismall and Warnock would generate sponsorship. If you can actually read, I said that players not wanting to come to our club would be detrimental in obtaining sponsorship.

Carlton want on field success. A fit Judd is a juggernaut for that. He is at the peak of his career. A player of Judd's capability is a one in 10 year opportunity. Brown is not and is heading toward the twilight of his career.

MFC have history of attracting big names dating back to Tilbrook but they did not deliver on field success.

We need to develop on field success and we will do that organically and not through a media quick fix appointment which dissolves in the same fate that great wonders like Templeton etc.

Correct. We need to do it through the draft & develop IMO, much like Hawthorn have in some ways. Brown was a pie in the sky - part-time short term fix plan that McNamee wanted. Would it have worked......maybe the first year or two, but as RR has said Mo he's twilight is upon us already IMO and Judd is in his prime for sometime.. It would have been a huge risk and would not have been a good move in hindsight now the AFL has agreed that we reduce our TPP to 92.5%.

I'm quite happy to have picks 1,17,19,35,51,67 with the coming draft and PSD#1. Happy that Green has signed on. If Green had gone for a pick I would have wished him the best and been happy with the upgrade in pick - it wasn't to be. He didn't want to go to Sydney which is totally understandable - who would want to live there! (Only kidding Sydneyites). With only 6 trades taking place, its no doubt been a time where most sides want to shore up draft picks with difficult times ahead (ie GC17).

But in the end, I'd rather keep Brad that take an unknown at pick 18 or something... And as many mentioned if we traded him and pick 17 for pick 11 or something that would have been a ridiculous waste.

Brad is worth far more to the club as a ten year player, leader, educater, example setter that ANOTH draft pick in the teens.

We have maybe 4 or 5 good example-setters in the squad who are 25+. Guys like JMac, Bruce, Whelan, Robbo, Davey, Miller... (Don't rate Wheatley, Carroll, or Jamar) and THAT'S IT for the 25+ category. Everyone else is just too young for us to ditch our best-performed (or second-best performed) senior player. It will likely only stunt their growth. Brad may not be the complete footballer, but he knows a thing or two about hard work, training properly, being professional both on the pitch and at the track, and having a cool head under pressure... He may not inspire, but he will set the standard in terms of work ethic along with some of the other guys like Brock, PJ, Bell, Jones who are renowned as hard trainers.

It just wasn't the right year to go in for major trades (GC17 is making everyone cagey), and besides, we simply didn't have a J. Hay, or J. Rawings that we knew we'd be better off without, that we could trade for high picks. Just because Green was the closest thing doesn't mean he was the BEST one to trade.

Just wasn't our year. I can live with that. Give it a few more years and we'll be BRIMMING with trade options, and GC would have had their fun. For now we have enough on our hands developing the 90% of our list that still is yet to come to fruition.
