Why on earth have the goal and the mark of the year not been announced yet? This is a monumental stuff up. Isn't it?

Does anyone know the reasoning behind the delay?

edit: (Mods can you move this to Message Board, as you can see I misplaced it...apologies)

edit: Cheers.

Is this the first time that the voting has included finals?

Perhaps that's meant a different time of announcing? Draft day? Round one next year? Does seem very odd though

I heard today on SEN that it will be announced during the pre season comp next year (NAB Cup or whatever it will be called next year) They also mentioned Aaron Edwards (Kangas)classic grab during the finals last year which was ineligible in 2007 because it was in the finals, will not be eligible for the 2008 season???!!! Figure that out? One of the great grabs of a decade will not get a look in!

Yeah - heard the same thing! The winners will be announced between the Nab Cup final and round 1 2009 - by which time, who gives a toss?

The AFL have essentially sold the package to whoever so kids ring up a 1800 number and vote for the winners. That's how it's decided (6 months later). Great marketing. What a joke!

Wtf? No one will give a continental except the AFL when it is announced next year. Another change to the rules or procedures by the AFL. It's just not kosher. It's all about the "vibe".

Vlad has gone bonkers :wacko::blink:

Has Toyota pulled the plug on the AFL, causing a delay to this announcement? Has this all been caused by the Carlton Draught Blimp over the G on Grand Final day? - Which made Toyota 'very unhappy', considering the Millions they pour into the AFL ($10 million/year) Hmmmmm. <_<

What a joke. I have already lost most interest. By the time they're announced there will already be contenders for next year's award.

The problem I think is that the nominations from Round 1 have had, what, 5, 6 months to accumulate votes? The ones from the grand final have had 2 weeks. I think they're letting it stretch out so that there can be a fair amount of votes for the later nominations.

But that's beside the point. A panel of judges should decide the winner. It shouldn't be a popularity contest.

Edit: According to Mike Sheahan, no one at the AFL knows what's going on in regards to MOTY and GOTY:

Nice backflip by the AFL. Nice to know someone has some common sense in that joint!

Yes. But to me the announcement got lost in the news, I thought they could of highlighted it better, like a presentation night perhaps? If it was me in the hot seat I would announce these awards either:

1/ During a celebration of football such as halftime on Grand Final day - but that's just me. The nominations from the whole season, including the finals would be included. Any worthy nominations taken during the Grand Final would not be eligible. (have to draw the line somewhere)

2/ Or on the weekend after the Grand Final and prior to the start of Trade week with an AFL Presentation Ceremony ie Friday 3rd October would have been a good choice. Including all AFL home and away games plus all finals. (The clubs will just have to organise their B&F nights around this).

PS. I guess Collingwood had to win something......eddie is not complaining is he?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
