The Zebras' destiny is not entirely in their own hands (or hooves to be more accurate). They must rely on Geelong beating Frankston in the curtain raiser to the Geelong v West Coast game on Saturday. Their team is more than somewhat depleted in the absence of suspended spearhead Nick Sautner and with a limited number of Melbourne listed players due to the Demons' long injury list:

And so ... in what will quite possibly be the last game of the Melbourne/Sandringham alliance, Michael Newton will finally get to play at full forward for the Zebras.

Hope Juice kicks 10!

and not much better at half three quarter time

Geelong 6.3.39 9.4.58

Frankston 12.5.77 19.8.122

which suggests that the Zebra dynasty is well and truly over and (apart from the possibility of the ressies going on for another week or two) the MFC alignment will be done and dusted as well as soon as the final siren sounds tomorrow afternoon.

Sad times.

Confirmed. Frankston beat Geelong at Geelong (probably for the first time ever down there) by 32 points to secure their place in the VFL finals. Irrespective of tomorrow's result, Sandy misses out on playing in the finals for the first time since 2001.

not a good pill to swallow at all....and you're right...1st time Frankston have ever won at Geelong

So tomorrow is the farewell to Melbourne FC....in the 1st year o the alliance we won a flag...and 3 more after that

The most successul AFL/VFL alliance...

We had some damn good times....

Next year brings a whole new set of variables..Sandy and St Kilda and Melbourne presumably with Casey...

Interesting times ahead...

Been a fantastic ride with Mebourne....thank to them for that....to all the Melbourne players who pulled on the Sandy jumper.(except for a couple) thanks for the effort...

I hope 2009 is the start of something bigger and better for the D's..after 2008 they sure desrve it...

I mean continue regading the couple of players you are not thanking for pulling on the Sandy jumper.

Anyway, I will stilll like to see you around here. Even though we wont be affiliating with Sandy, Ill be taking an outside interest in their progression.

Brent Grgic in particular,,,,showed zero interest when he got dropped to Sandy...mind you he appeared to show little interest when playing for Melbourne...come to think of it I'm finding it difficult to name another player.....when you get players like Adem Yze busting their guts for Sandy you really appreciate it....he's most probably the biggest "name" player to play for us...Jeff White was terrific too...so many others as well...in the 3peat, all the winners of the BOG in the Grand Finl were MFC players...Guy Rigoni, Daniel Ward and Phil Read...you can't for more than that

Good to see Newton go back and kick 2 on a day which didnt suit forwards. Good to see Bate played a game as well.

Is Jack Grimes eligible to play for the Sandy 2nds next week then? Is there benefit in giving him a run if so?

A big thank you to BBR. Your reports were eagerly awaited and greatly appreciated. All the best for Sandy next year - I'm going to find it hard to toss them for Casey (whoever they are). Thanks also to Ice Station Zebra and other reporters.

Cheers!

Just musing whether Lovell will cross over to Casey?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
