Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Most Improved Player for 2008

This will be an interesting, and hotly contested award this year. Usually each year its pretty much a no-brainer that a player has a breakout 2nd

year to win this, Newton took the chocolates last year, however this year there's a series of realistic contenders:

-Simon Buckley

-Paul Johnson

-Chris Johnson

-Colin Garland

-Matthew Warnock

It's generally given to a 2nd or 3rd year player so might rule Paul Johnson out, so I think Chris Johnson or Matthew Warnock may get it. Predictions?

July 2008 'Most Improved' thread:

Nothing's changed for me - still Garland.

Mine has changed a bit from then.

1. Simon Buckley

2. Colin Garland

3. Paul Johnson

4. Matthew Warnock

5. Chris Johnson

Still Garland for me, but PJ and Bucks have each shown great improvement this year.

1. Garland

2. Buckley

3. PJ

4. Warnock

5. Dunn

Special point to Miller, he's gone from trade bait/delist to one of our most important players.

I see the "most improved" player ranking an interesting one, as many players' performance may improve because of added confidence.

Someone like CJ and even Garland may fit this category. This year they have backed themselves. Garland will get the nod IMO, but he only played 1(?) game last year, so it's also hard to know where he was at last year.

Even in his own words, he's started backing himself this year and rating himself amongst other AFL players, whilst CJ has finally started backing his judgement and movement and as such I don't know if it's "improvement" or just showing how good they are

Warnock has gone from dud (IMO) to a pretty decent defender who still has room to improve, but has vastly imporved his game this year when judged against his previous years.

I'd have to say Warnock or Buckley, as both have been on our list for a while, but this has been their "breakout" year

i think garland is actually more likely to win best first year player. i know he is not strictly a first year player, but what is the criteria for that? normally most improved goes to someone who played a few games then had a much better year. and rarely would it go to a player like green who has been around forever.

I agree with this assessment by Pates. I would probably swap Dunn and Warnock around fwiw. Been impressed with Dunn and his tasks of negating prime opposition.

Newton took it last year!!!!!!!!!!!! what a disgrace to the great Barassi name, it also show just how bad Neal Daniher was at blooding youngsters , Newtons 1st game was danihers last surely Bate or jones were more desearving of the award last year

I'm with you on this one Deanox. My criteria for Most Improved is someone who has gone to another level. I don't think that you can say that Garland has gone to another level after only playing 2 games in the previous year. Based on my criteria, I would give CJ or Wheatley most improved.

Matthew Warnock.

I love the way he plays. No nonsense just gets the job done. A big improvement on '07.

Who do we all think has been the most dissapointing?

I think Carroll, I was expecting another solid season.

I'd say Buckley and Garland have both been the notables, but it's so early they mightn't reall 'qualify'.

In terms of comparing someone to where they were and the stage they were at in their career, and what we expected to see from them, Chris Johnson is a possible.

Paul Johnson has become a consistent performer at that level we saw tantalising glimpses of over previous years.

Dunn has built in some consistency but hasn't had much flair - which is of course tough in a mostly taggin role.

Nods to Wheatley and Green among the veterans.

But for me it goes to Brad Miller. If not for a couple of games missed through injury, he'd be well on target to kick more goals this season than in the rest of his career combined. He has also increased disposals by 20% and marks by 50%, and is using it better than previously (someone told him it was now ok to face towards the goals... nice one Mr. Bailey)

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
