FitZ i'm with you. It wasn't a "couple" of bad disposals. It was 52% of his disposals! 12 of his 23 didn't hit a target. 3 goals 1 behind means that 7 of his 19 disposals that weren't scoring shots were effective

he did do some nice things

but he made some stupid stupid stupid mistakes

obviously, the kick at the end accross goal to lloyd but he has no desperation from what i saw

Jamar was simply outstanding in the middle. That fluffed kick at goal in the square broke my heart, because he so deserved to kick that goal.

He is quite an ordinary footballer, but he works so hard and he really does know how to help the little blokes under him. His rucking today was superb and he took some good marks up forward.

Sylvia's lazy attempt at stepping around 3 Essendon players in the first quarter instead of going in to lay the tackle ruined his day for me, but to his credit he did improve. I can't stand him when he plays like a millionaire and his brain fades and arrogance are costly, but he is talented and he can play and that can never be disputed.

Garland was good again, Martin had a great last quarter and Bell kept McPhee quiet after he was on fire early against Garland.

Junior pretty much won all of our clearances. He had a massive influence on the match, but as usually Junior goes unheralded.

I thought Sylvia was really good.

Made a couple of shocking mistakes. but was a good target when up forward. seemed to really want the ball today.

I cringed everytime Jamar got the ball early, his disposal is simply terrible. always going for that quick handpass out the back is getting totally predictable.

To his credit he bounced back in the third and forth and took some really good strong grabs up front.

Can someone tell me why we gave away so many free's at the centre bounce?

I thought Junior was our best player.

Sylvia has now played 2 good games for the season that would be a first. Sylvia shits me I'm constantly tearing my hair out with him he shows bursts that make you think he is finally going to make it then he does something stupid like when he blazed away in the backline straight down Lloyd's throat in the end costing us the game.

Jamar tried hard but I thought he was terrible he cost us at least 4 goals. That missed chance in the goal square and the terrible kick from 20 metres out went straight down the other end for Essendon goals resulting in a 4 goal turnaround and he refuses to look when he is handpassing. The first Melbourne jumper he sees he will handball it to them it doesn't matter if they have a player on him or not he is clearly brain dead.

In the end we beat ourselves we are never going to improve while we are consistantly making horrible errors week in week out.

What frustrated me today was players going on mini-suicidal missions "running" past the guy who had the mark calling for the handball from about 23 centimetres away.

I'd need to see a replay but i'd guess at least 4-5 times we fluffed play (including in the Bombers forwardline in the last quarter when Lloyd kicked one from outside 50)

2 things drove me nuts. One obviously is giving the handball, don't put your teammates under pressure. But the other thing that annoyed me was, don't call for the handball if you're in a [censored] position.

I had a go at Jamar for giving the handball before, and i'll happily have a go at the guys being stupid enough to CALL for the handball when they're not in best position. It would put the ball carrier under great pressure to pass it to them, and generally is a complete waste. I think Sylvia took the one that Lloyd kicked. Can't remember the others. One in the first quarter i think was Maric, so that can be ignored for now, but it's something we have to stop

Thought he was ordinary, perhaps a 6. Certainly not his worst game but he continues to be a worry around the ball. He's just as likely to dive clean over the top of the thing as he is to actually fire it out to a teammate. His awareness is limited and he struggles massively in the marking contest, sometimes even to effect a spoil.

To be honest, Jetta is an erratic, and presently ordinary footballer. Its no big scalp to keep him out of the game, and I would expect no less from Bartram. Gets marks for doing his job, but little else.

I think he'll be a decent footballer for us going forward, but he has had a poor year overall, Bartram. Probably lucky not to have found himself at Sandy a few times.

Buckley was muchhhhh better than last week IMO. Not sure whether he played on less or ran a bit faster and didn't get caught as often but he actually impressed me today... which is a big deal cos last week I was calling for his head.

Loved when Sylvia and can't remember who else made pathetic, soft attempts at tackling an Essendon player and then enters Green to show them how it's done, throwing the Bomber and the ball over the boundary line. Reaffirmed in my mind that Green is the absolute man for the job for next year.

Sylvia needs to actually put his head up when he kicks the ball so he can find a target instead of booting it directly to the opposition. Did this about 4 or 5 times today and soured what I thought was a pretty good performance.

Does anyone know/did they see if Bailey gave Sylvia a spray at 1/4 time? Just thought when he marked the ball in the 2nd quarter for his first goal he sorta showed it off a bit as if to be like 'Look Bailey, I've got it'.. I don't know. Could be wrong.

And can we really attack players for handballing it so often..? Someone is bloody telling them to do it.

If that was Sylvia's best game for the season, then we may as well forget it. He was looked totally disinterested and lazy in the first quarter. His lack of effort to chase and lead was disgusting. He must of got a blast at quarter time becuse he improved somewhat (only sightly mind you) in the rest of the game, but if that was his best......

We needed him to work really hard today as our number one forward, but he failed to step up to the task. We looked so stagnant in the first quarter because he refused to work hard to provide a target. It was only when we had the resting ruckman and Green and Morton willing to work hard across half forward that we had any real flow.

Agree, one area of our game we have not improved in years, in fact has probably gotten worse over the last 4-5 years. We do not protect the player with the ball enough, we stand flat footed next to the ball carrier calling for it or run next to the ball carrier calling for it a metre away and end up getting tackled or turning it over.

The last qtr when Buckley got caught, again, Wheater was standing next to him and gave a half hearted "attempt" at a shepherd. Bucks was tackled, turn over goal. We do not seem to be learning from those mistakes.

It is great to see players making the running but we have to be able to have players willing to play supporting roles and shepherding and blocking to give the ball runner time and space to find a target.

Sylvia was at his frustrating best, when he is good he looks fantastic, leading, marking and goaling. Then he will brain fart and not chase or give away easy turn overs bombing it long, but he is not Robinson Crusoe there in the MFC colours
