In Andrew Lovett

Out Scott Lucas (back)

MELBOURNE

In Brad Green Paul Wheatley Austin Wonaeamirri

Out Brad Miller (hamstring) Nathan Jones Michael Newton

Green and Wheatley are handy ins, but Miller is a loss. Obviously Lucas out hurts us.

Interesting.... Had a feeling those would be our three ins, but couldn't decide who had to go... Miller will hurt us when we get in the forward 50, time for Bate to stand up. Nathan Jones has been sloppy for a while, a recharge at Sandy surely won't hurt him. And Juice, well I love him, but needs to show a bit more, something someone like Aussie has done all year.

I predict a loss, but honorable. Twenty points.

Posted

wow...well i guess that is cya later newton

Jones and Miller are big losses..

Wonder why jones has been given the chop?

Posted

Um Jones WTF?

I know he turns the ball over but who in our side doesn't?

He's a 20 yr old kid who's copping the most attention from other clubs through the middle and we've dropped him?

Surely there must be something else to it?

I for one don't actually rate him as highly as some others on this forum but how the fcuk can u have Bell in the side ahead of Jones on form?

Posted

Well I have to say Newton being dropped is no surprise. Goodbye Michael.

But I didn't expect Jones to get dropped. However I think it is a good move: let him work on his disposal at Sandy for a while.

3 great ins. Miller will be missed though.

That's Newtons career OVER, he will be delisted at seasons end and will make way for Jack Watts.

I wonder whats up with Jones?

I wouldnt mind seeing this forward line-

Aussie Dunn Maric

Green Bate Davey

Or would it be silly to think maybe Bailey will chuck either one of Garland or Martin up forward to see what happens? wouldnt hurt would it?

The team is down two key forwards on last week makes me think Garland or Martin may go forward - especially with Lucas out of the Bombers lineup.

As for those writing off Juice, it is still premature. He had a bad game and deserved to be dropped, but give him some time. He'll get one more season at least.

Last time I checked Bell and Jones dont play the same position. Each player that has been sent to Sandy has been sent to work on a facet of there game.. Jones form has been mediocre at best and his high disposal games have been clanger city. It will not hurt him to get some relief at a lower level and work on aspects of his game. Each time this has happened this year the player has returned in better form/polish than prior to their departure.

i think Dunn will tag Stanton or Watson... he's still learning the craft... didn't have a great game last week, but he needs to keep learning... give him another job this week...

i think your second point will come to fruition... with 2 key forwards out of last weeks side, and scott lucas out of the bombers lineup, i think we'll definately see Garland forward at times, perhaps Stef Martin too...

Obviously Lucas out hurts us.

It hurts us as well.

Lovett's a good in. Hope we get to see him focused.

Jamar v Laycock. Clash of the giants. Will draw an extra 25,000 to the game.

What is it with our more experienced players and injuries? Every time we get an injury this year, its to someone over 24 years of age. I dont think any of our youngsters this year have picked up an injury, Juice excepted, its only happening to the older guys that are hitting form (Green, Wheatley, Miller the last month alone).

Bit suprised with Jones' omission but it wont hurt him to have a week or two back at Sandy. As for Juice, I think he will be on the list next year as we can only get rid of so many, but he has to start showing something.

True, am i alone though? am i the only one who though Dunn didnt look too bad when played up forward? His height and strength are now developed and i just like the idea of him being a KP player for us but by the way things are going you are right. he will be handed a tagging role.

I too think that the move is fair enough. I do think it will have an impact on our ability to force contests in the close in situations. I look at our on ball brigade and with Moloney, Mclean, Jones out we look pretty weak around the contest. Valenti will spend some time in there which will give us a bit of grunt and it will be a real chance for him to shine.

But the result is less important than developing the list. Lets hope Nate's disposal picks up and he comes back and kills them. Lets see who can step up.

Posted

PJ gets a chance to shine as a tall forward on his own. lets see if he is up to it.

NJ needed a rest. let him play two weeks at. one week to realise that he is above the vfl level and can run around so much easier. the second week to consolidate his work on his disposal. he will then get another week or two at afl to see if he can have improved disposal at afl level.

My concern with Dunn is that despite his size he looks all at sea in marking situations IMO. Particularly overhead contested situations which would naturally preclude him from keing a KPP.

Has anyone ever seen him take an overhead contested mark? I would be interested in others observations as I don't get to all the games.

Posted

yeah very true mate.

Also i just want to point out a point that has been made a number of times this year but i am so glad how bailey is running this team with letting a guy who is called up play at least 2 games in a row. like maric etc

that is all haha

Posted

Took the only two blokes that played infront of the ball last week and left them both out of the side (one through injury admittedly - although the "hamstring" virus appears to have spread from Green to Miller).

All 18 blokes behind the ball this week?

No target forward of the centre circle?

Kick it to Watts!

Because of the defensive side of their games? That's the only things I can think of...

This is the closest thing our side under Bailey has come to tanking.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
