6. PJ - thought he was massive for us

5. Jones - Found a bit of the footy and some form, and mostly used it well when almost everyone around him lost their head. If he could just get his arms free when he gets tackled, he would be a legitimate gun.

4. Valenti - Really its a toss up between 4, 3, 2, and 1, but I liked Valenti's game today.

3. CJ - Used the ball well and had it on a string again.

2. Buckley - finds the footy but sheesh needs to find his brain. A few good touches though.

1. Morton - was largely unsighted in the first half but I thought he was very good generally in the 2nd.

6. Buckly- tried all day, love his run (even if it doesn't work sometimes)

5. Jones - Worked hard all day, engine room of the team especially with Brock out

4. Valenti - Impressive game, looks confident for a young player

3. P.J - Starting to come into his own

2. C.J - Playing good consistant footy

1. Miller - Main target up forward

3- Buckley (attempted run out of the goal square= disgrace)

1- Jamar

That's when I stood up and left. My feet were blue, the score was grim and Simon Buckley showed us once again that, contrary to his own firm belief that he is the fastest man in football and can take everyone on, HE GETS CAUGHT 9 TIMES OUT OF TEN.

Fixed.

I give encouragement votes when I have nobody left to vote for.

I think Jamar is working really hard and improving each week. He took some solid marks, layed a couple of nice tackles and he works as hard as anyone out there. He is still a very very ordinary footballer, but at least he tries. I am sometimes shocked at the lack of intensity from some of our players, but with Jamar it's never lacking and I can appriciate that.

Jones was stiff to miss out, but he now has been playing long enough to be able to judge the required distance of a kick. The amount of crap disposals he had today was unacceptable, even if he is constantly under pressure. Valenti was under pressure and hit targets most of the day.

Buckley is somewhat excused, but I'm slowly getting fed up with players who do not know their limitations and try to run before they can walk. Breaking 8 tackles in a row is NOT possible, understand that and we'll all be better off.

6: No one

5: ditto

4: Jamar (yes Jamar because he tried very hard all day long)

3: Valenti, this kid unlike some others in the team possesses a real football IQ.

2: PJ,

1: Jones

And frankly Morton was shocking. As for Sylvia, well we shall see what the powers at the club have to say about him at seasons end.

6- P. Johnson - Our best by a fair way, IMO. Got heaps of the ball, used it really well, and threw his body around. Career-best game to date.

5- C. Johnson - Just keeps getting heaps of the footy, and uses it very well. Is doing much more defensively too.

4- Valenti - Along with Jones, controlled our engine room.

3- Buckley - Exiciting but reckless youngster.

2- Davey - A reasonable performance from Flash.

1- Warnock - Did the job on Corey Jones after he carved us up early.

Jones and Miller stiff to miss out.

1 Whelan (for showing how tackling is done properly)

Nice. Good to see the Wrecker given some credit. I thought he deserved it. He brings his experience to the table, and will be an asset in the twilight of his career in defence, teaching the younger guys a bit about contesting and tackling. He spoilt impressively a couple of times today when out of position.

Who did he play on?

Cos one of those little aboriginal Kangaroo forwards kicked a few

Hmm. I'm actually not 100% sure. There were some pretty cheap goals kicked by the Kangas today though. Every goal they kicked after quarter time came from a free kick or Melbourne error or both. They didn't kick a goal from a drop punt in any of their first 6.

He played on Shannon Grant for a while when he was forward, I know that much.

I'm pretty sure that Bell played on Thomas, who kicked 5, at least for part of the game. Poor old Danny couldn't take a trick today.

Argh, this frustrates me more than anything. Someone needs to tell this boy that he's not Superman, that he is a human that other humans can, and often do, catch when you try to run around them.

Minus 6: Sylvia - no effort, no team ethic, no trade value anymore.

Minus 5: Jones - "pass it to our players"

Minus 3: Newton - dumb arse

Minus 2: Morton - must learn that dogging it is not acceptable. If your body is not right, then play next season!

Minus 1: Bell - weak.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
