"Ruck tyro Robert Warnock is likely to command a new contract worth almost $1 million over three years if he elects to stay at Fremantle." from the West Australian Freo will pay $1m to keep Warnock

Also -

"Speculation Warnock would leave was rampant earlier in the season when he played just two matches in the first half of the year and was in inconsistent form in the WAFL after pre-season price tags put his value at as much as $500,000 per year.

But it is believed his stocks at the club and his interest in staying have risen in recent weeks since his return to AFL ranks.

'Six weeks ago it seemed he was definitely leaving. Now he is considering it,' a Melbourne-based football industry source said yesterday."

Slow news day in the West. The only fact in the story was a direct quote from his manager who said that they'd wait to the end of the season to discuss a new contract, otherwise the entire arcticle was just speculation based on hearsay.

if he wants to go, we'll get him

even if we only have pick 3 in the PSD which would be the absolute worst pick we would get in the PSD

freo wont take him with their pick

i dont think WC would take him because they know that he desperately wants to come home to melbourne

Simple.

Just offer him more than Freo.

Difficult, we can't aford to pat him more than he's worth. Do we really know how much that is?

Posted

Freo are playig games. He is not worth 1 million, so we should call their bluff, and let him stay at that price. They are trying to build up his stocks prior to the trade period.

I will be flat out honest, there is no way we should over pay for Robbie Warnock! He is a rising talent, but he is not setting the world on fire.

He is worth nowhere near that much at this point.

Would be ridiculous for Melbourne to match that.

I've seen all his games this year.. and guess what? HIS NOT THAT FRICKEN GOOD!!! He fumbles the ball, doesn't take a strong mark, and his diposal very average. He can stick his $1m up his arse as far as i'm concerned. And if people think his going to be our answer to 10 years of rucking.. boy you got another thing coming!! He'll be another Meesen.

Why would Freo pay a Mill for a 2nd ruck? They have Sandilands who is still improving. If they are lucky they will trade him rather than lose him in the PSD.

Freo stuffed up big time going for recylced players and now are going into very compromised drafts after this year. If he is determined to go they will try very hard to deal!!

Isn't this some sort of ambit claim by Freo? Try to get some bidding going??

We need to play hardball, and IF he goes to the PSD and IF he is the best on offer, then go for him at a fair price.

If he nominates for the PSD he can also nominate his price.

It's also worth noting that the WA media are hardly solid reference points for anything.

And it is the price to stay in Freo. Is he a melbourne (victorian) boy? WE may to pay a lot less if home is part of teh deal.

All good observations re Warnock but what really p's me off is not having Kreutzer (sp?) running around in the red and the blue this year.

Carlton, burn in Hell you tankers.

We wouldn't be having this conversation otherwise.

Dare I say it bob, but Carlton are not the team we should be blaming.

How Good is Warnock?? Be Honest I Hate watching Freo Games. Don't consider them real. So i have not followed his carreer. Is he that good

He's good but he's a ruckman with a bad shoulder. Who else is out there for the PSD?

Oh, he's good all right. In fact, he's very good. The only reason that he hasn't played more games and had more game time with the Dockers is that there's this sinister clique of established players at Fremantle that's keeping their good mate Sandilands playing in the first ruck.

looks like pure couching for a good price IMO.

If Freo want pay him $1m, let them. They dont exactly have the track record of being the best traders or recruiters.

Why would you want to bid over the top of a club that has endlessly made mistakes. Cue someone to provide a link to the Freo powerpoint presentation showing all their mistakes.

If he is going to leave, Freo will be forced to deal, we have the position of power, there is no drama.

Warnock is quality (I doubt most here have seen him play).

Very talented young player. I'd be stoked if we land both he and Watts this summer.

Would not give one of our first 3 picks for him.

I think a trade for someone like Michael Newton might be thing. Both players have had their injury problems this year and would be looking for new environments to reinvigorate their respective careers.

Just be assh*les and take him in the PSD for nothing... 1 Mil for 3 years isn't that much especially with the salary cap raising to about 8 mil.. it is only an average wage

Second ruckman in a bottom side.... give us a break. Don't waste a pick.

Worst post.

Fremantles ruck division is the best in the AFL. With Sandilands & Warnock you have probably the best pairing in the league.

Their ruckman arent the reason there so low on the ladder.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
