Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

New Stadium Deal

Reported on SEN this morning that we will pull out of the new stadium deal. The main reason being that we want to keep our administrative offices at the MCG. We will train at Gosch's paddock and lose our $250,000 deposit.

Yes but our entire football department will be based in the redeveloped Southern Stand, paying virtually no rent and having exclusive use. This is a good decision. Bubble dome was always a [censored] and should never have been part of our plans. It had ongoing costs in the vicinity of $500,000 per annum(don't quote me here, this is just what I heard) Jimmy is making our home the MCG. All games there, training that Gosch's Paddock, Gym at the G, Football dept. at the G. Closing off the top tier when we play low pulling teams, meaning we can make money each and every week. This is a watershed moment, albeit a little scary

I quite like the idea of aborting Bubbledome. Its whole premise came unstuck and is haemoraging costing us money. On the surface a nice idea whose time has played out. However..the last time I looked the MCC not Us were in charge of the MCG regarding whether or not we make money out of attendances. Simply closing off a section doesnt get any more into a ground.

Simply closing off a section doesnt get any more into a ground.

What it does do is reduce the costs of hosting the game. By closing off sections, you reduce the number of staff required to man those areas of the ground, and reduce the catering costs etc. It doesn't increase the revenue raised, but it does lower the expense side of the equation, therefore reducing the "break even" line considerably. It might not make games against Freo et al profitable, but it might stem the money haemorrhage these games are a bit.

It's a good idea and I don't know why it hadn't been done sooner.

So we would have our Gym Facilities at the G? If thats right thats good news. And where is Goshs paddock? Is it a good training ground? Sorry i live in brisbane and have no idea?

But if this is all true and it will save us money in the future then i am happy with it!

And i too have no idea why people have not thought about closing the upper tier of the grandstands for games against inter-state teams.

Basically, I don't think anyone thought of it. I think I recall reading that it would lower the break even crowd to around 16,ooo meaning we could make money from every game. It also improves the atmosphere of the match

It was done for the Fremantle game earlier this year with great success (from an atmosphere point of view). I haven't seen any figures but I understand that the cost savings (ie. number of people required to break even or make a profit) were very significant as well.

It shouldn't matter whether it is our ground or not (pointless carping about it anyway in my view), the option to close sections should be in our stadium agreement. If it isn't, then we should be trying to get it in there. It seems like a pretty quick way to make at least a few hundred thousand dollars difference to our bottom line straight away, if not considerably more.

Mainly because the MCC make less money out of it.

This is where we need to get the MCC back on board with us.

By closing down the top tier, they would, in effect, be giving us a more favourable stadium deal.

In other words they would be sponsoring us.

If the MCC owned us completely then it would be in their best interests to make sure that ALL our matches were profitable.

Just putting it out there.

Am i the only one here who is getting VERY VERY inpatient.

apparently we are going to have our new summer training base at Casey fields---- still no confirmed deal.

apparently we're going to have olympic park bubble dome--- now apprently not.

now whispers about home base admin at the Mcg--- still no real word on this.

All i want is

1) one permanent ground to train on in the summer

2) our admin in one quality facility, in close proximity to our training preferably

3) a stable board and staff with a low turnover. i'm sick of hearing a sacking every day. a business with a high taff turnover is a bad business!

these are 3 pretty reasonable requests and i've been waiting for 3 [censored] years.

why cant someone just figure these problems out already.

i know Jimmy is new to the job, but enough is enough. GET ON IT ALREADY

The Club has gathered $1 million in donations specifically earmarked to fund the fitout of the new home at the rectangular stadium.

The people who donated this money would have choked on their Wheeties to find out about the change of plan by reading the Age. Just like McNamee would have read about his fate in the Herald Sun on Tuesday.

Will these people want their money back? Who would blame them? Amateur hour!!

The new board is doing what should've been done years ago, getting back on side with the MCG, This is our only long term chance of thriving in the AFL. WE should play all our games there and several of our away games as well. Train at Gosch's, do the rest at our HOME - THE MCG! Great decision

I'm not saying whether or not it is a good decision. I am asking if we have to find a million to pay these people back in addition to our debts and the MOPT break fee of $250k. Has the Club even considered the $1 million in making its decision - no corporate memory left there any more?

Fair point and it'll be interesting how that plays out. I'm sure people would be happy to use that money to set up casey and to relieve some debt

Just heard on the radio that the MFC denied they are abandoning their move to the bubble-dome/rectangular stadium. Too much money has been put into it for it all to go to waste.

Those people who donated money to the Red & Blue foundation would be furious if this happened!

Gosh's padock is on the corner of punt and swan, it's where collingwood train now.

That seems to be an accurate figure based on which Jimmy told the meeting I attended earlier in the week.

Will the club be allowed to relocate its Pokie machines into the Bubble dome? The main reason I was excited about moving was having a social club for all the supporters to gather before and after the game. The problem we at the MCG in regards to this is we use 3-4 rooms for our members to gather and most have little to no atmosphere. The Medalist bar was good when we had the cheap pots before and after the game. We got trumped by Eddie when the new stands at the MCG were built, the Pies basically have behind the goals at the city end with a huge social club both there and at lexus, I'm he would have done a deal with the MCC to get a cut from the bar sales as well.

That's a pity, I think we should scrap it and move to the G

How about this, just a thought.

1 All admin at the G.

2 Field training at GOSHs paddock, do we get advertising right to the fencing on Punt rd., big money there, good exposure.

3 Does the Vic cricket side have a gym at the G , can we expand it with the money left over from the bubble dome?

4 Can we get closer to the MCC and use the maybe benifits there.

5 Turfing out the CEO wont cost us any more money as he will only be getting the money he would have got if he was still employed by the MFC. That money would have been budgeted for in the last budget, we wont have a CEO but with only 6 games left do you think he would have made that much difference.

6 HOW DID WE LOOSE 2 MILLION DOLLARS- who dropped his bundle?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
