God i Love Connolly. Such a straight talker, but picks his words well.

His quote about Neitz is fantastic

Posted

Did Chris Connolly really say that?

If so, fair enough. But I thought we could at least take a chance with Ben Cousins. He has more to lose than us. Just give him a 1 or 2 year contract with strict conditions.

The MFC need to do something exciting rather going down the "boring route" constantly.

What the clubs say about Ben Cousins

Adelaide:

"We're just not interested." - football manager John Reid

Brisbane Lions

Coach Leigh Matthews could not be contacted.

Carlton

"We're sort of going down more of a youth set-up." - coach Brett Ratten

Collingwood

Essendon

"Unlikely, he doesn't fit in with our youth policy." - club spokesman

Fremantle

"We haven't discussed Ben Cousins at any of our list management meetings in the past. It would be highly unlikely that he would be discussed at any stage in the future." - coach Mark Harvey

Geelong

Hawthorn

"We've said we wouldn't be interested in him all along." - club spokesman

Melbourne

"No interest at the Melbourne Football Club, we're focused on the age group of 18 to 22." - football manager Chris Connolly

North Melbourne

"He's probably not the right fit for us at the moment (for) a whole host of reasons - age, the amount of footy he's missed." - coach Dean Laidley

Port Adelaide

"We'd look at it if he's going to play again, but I wouldn't think so at this stage. At this stage of his career I don't think we would be interested in recruiting a player at his age." - football manager Peter Rohde

Richmond

"Does he take the spot of one of our up-and-coming developing midfielders? That could be the case. Or does he come into your midfield with his experience of being a Brownlow Medallist, a premiership player a captain, does he come in and actually teach your midfielders certain aspects of the game?" - assistant coach Brian Royal

St Kilda

"The most important thing is that Ben gets his health back on track and and any other discussions are premature as far as we're concerned." - football manager Matthew Drain

Sydney

"It's been well documented that we've got no interest in him." - club spokesman

Western Bulldogs

no comment

West Coast

chief executive Trevor Nisbett did not return calls

We won't get him, and we shouldn't of course... But I still get excited about the idea of the club's kids seeing what it takes to train that way.

Not NEARLY a good enough reason of course... But we can fantasise.

Posted

He'd show our blokes a level of training they'd never even imagined.

To put his body through what he put it through and still be a top 5 player in the game is a testament to how hard he trained. It doesn't excuse what he was doing to himself, but it's scary to think how much better he would have been without being on the junk.

I say good luck to him but I'd rather continue with the kids. Give Ben a miss and let him go to his surrogate father in Malthouse. Collingwod's my bet for Cousins.

Same. Apparently has a lot of links with Doggies so they're a maybe and the Hawks drafted Dew so if salary cap is no issue he could land there

After that interview on the footy show, I don't want him anywhere near MFC. He's still a coke head and always will be. You can tell he does lines for lunch.

Just got home from footy training..... Can someone let me know what he said on the footy show??

What was his attitude like, how was his appearance, and did he look like he was off his guts???

He's a very modest guy. He knows he's a good footballer. Nothing wrong with that. But the way he sounds. You can tell he was on it hard. And probably still is. No doubt he was doing a gram of cocaine a day. And he has hardly been in rehab, so he is definetly still doing it today.

Bailey has already stated his future plans and a 30 year old Cousins isnt part of it (no quick fixes)

Cousins on the slim chance that someone picks him up would only benefit a team attempting a premiership

IMO the only team that needs a quality midfielder is Collingwood

I call that one Benny ;)

I think Benny Holland has been captured by aliens and won't be seen on any AFL ground in the near or distant future.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
