If Jace Bode gets another game in the senior side this year I will throw up. He was horrible yesterday, at least 3 things he did could of lost the game for us. Always too concious of his man, and cant for the life of him pick up the ball below his knees. Please drop him for buckley or valenti

yeah, he really struggled yesterday.

He is just an average player at the moment and i cant see him showing any signs of improvement.

I would bring in Valenti if we can, he is like Bode but will imporve with every game he plays.

At the moment i think Buckley needs some time in Sandy to improve his finishing skills, everyone knows he is fast and can find the ball which are two incredibly important skills to have, but consistently watching him turn it over is infuriating!!

I think Bode will be dropped this week with Whelan returning to form but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he was given another shot. Garland and Warnock should have taught us all a lesson about writing off players too early. With finals out of contention why not persist with a couple of these blokes.

nup, we're not getting rid of him.

we're in the rebuilding stages at the moment

atm carroll is a better footballer than him. but id rather bode in the team, theres only one way to get better in his case, experience.

Garland, frawley, bode, rivers, warnock (played a great game yesterday, as did garland). are all gonna be in the team regardless (unless injured) well at least 3 minimum, one gets injured bell's goin to have to prove himself.

its the only way theyre goin to get better!

Exactly, it seems Bell and Bode are the easy targets this week.

I hope people's opinions will differ in a month or so.

Your spot-on 'Gouga', I think Bode has a lot more attributes that he is not showing & some that you can't see like knowing how to survive with chronic type injuries & then recover to play on.

He has some toughness (physical), some pace, can kick, a good footy brain etc. He needs to learn to get & maintain his confidance @ the top level like we're seeing with Warnock..& we're seeing now with CJ @ VFL level, these things just don't happen overnight as they say.

Bring back Valenti - atleast he's not afraid to get his head over the ball.

Also, I thought Cale Morton's work ethic yesterday was terrible, so many times I saw him just standing around on the 50 metre line not making an effort to lead for our midfielders when our forward line was empty and he's still a bit too scared to get his head over the ball too (probably couldn't blame him with his frame lol). But he does enough to keep his spot that's for sure, I guess he just had a bad one yesterday.

Anyone know what happened to Frawley?

Posted

Morton really needs to work on his shepparding, saw him just running next to the player with the ball while there was a Collingwood player closing in and he didn't even try :(. Frawley hurt his shoulder at training and should be right to play this week.

out of all our young players, he's the only one who hasn't shown anything in my opinion... just haven't seen any sign of potential in him...

the only reasonable game he's played was in the tank match against the blues last season... not sure how long his contract is, but if it is only one season, he's out the door at years end...

Bode seemed totally lost during the game. He looked confused about where he should be, who he was on and what he meant to be doing.

Well out of (t)his league.

I feel C Johnson should be played before Bode.

C Johnson is in his fifth year on the list and has played very well at VFL level in recent weeks. Lets not die wondering and give him 3-4-5 games in a row at AFL level to settle himself and see what he can do. Bringing him in for one game here are there isn't great experience for him as well as the pressure of knowing he is the first bloke to get dropped every time he does crack the senior team.

Just a note, Buckley and C Johnson are both similar in height and size as Birchall and Ellis from Hawthorn. They have pace, endurance and both could be potentially very damaging half-back flankers / wingers and should both be given a better chance to show that at AFL level.

About 5-6 games ago and you could change the name "Bode" to Garland or Warnock and we could say the same things. Gouga is spot on. Perhaps he just needs to be given the chance to convert whatever the coaches see at training into games.

Bell on the other hand has had many chances, but continues to struggle when the heat is on in the backline. I think he would make a good midfielder or half forward and I would hate to see him lining up for another club in the coming years proving me right.

CJ surely deserves a spot now after what sounds like several classy performances at Sandy. Just not at the expense of some more games for Bode to thake the next step like we have seen from Garland and Warnock, and not at the expense of Bell who is a good footballer.

I agree.

Bell so many great attributes of strength and pace and shouldn't be pigeon-holed so early in his career in a defensive post.

I would love to see him given time in the midfield (at AFL level or Sandringham) to see what he can do. He is a similar build to a Luke Hodge and unlike Jones and McLean, he offers a lot more pace whilst boasting the same strength and tacking power.

It also gives players like C Johnson and Buckley to have good game time at AFL level playing as that medium-defender role which is probably where both their futures lie.

Look im not much of a Bode fan, but wasnt he playing on Medhurst who has been dominating this year, and Medhurst had no impact on the game. What was so bad about his game?

Posted

Just wondering about what people thought of his game on Sunday against the TIges.

I can't get to the late Sunday games and have only seen the 1st Qtr on replay. He seemed a lot better in that qtr that he did the week before. How did people see his overall game? Was there any improvement and fresh hope that he can develop ala Garland?

Posted

I'm not sure that he has the range of improvement than say a Garland, Morton or even a player like Buckley has and I believe, with Bode, it's a case of what you see is what you get..

I find it hard to get excited about Bode but I remember a young James McDonald who wasn't quick, had an average kick on him but just loved to compete and found a way. Now he is the reigning bluey winner - twice !!

I think its mental and even Bode could become a consistent player given time. His attitude is there so who knows he may prove us all wrong.

Did Whelan play at the weekend ?

This topic came up on another thread.

I think he just doesnt have it.....

Given this is the year of blooding and rebuilding I couldnt give a toss who we give a chance to, but there is no way known he would be getting a game in a half competitive side.

IMO Keep using him until we are sure if he is a dud or not. I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see him playing in R&B after this year.

FWIW I dont think Frawley has what it takes yet either, but I do think he will develop with bulk.

No. He was emergency for the Dees (the other two - Jamar and Carroll - played for Sandy).

Agree 4 million %.

Bode doesn't have it and never will. Guts of an easter egg.

Frawley is just no good. When will you die hards learn? And dont pull to developing [censored]. And don't pull out the "look at Garland" card. I could see in his first couple of games and watching him at Sandy he had something about him. He just wasn't ready for the big time but is now slowly getting there. Frawley looks out of place at any level. Skill not up to standard, can't read the play well, speed and strenght no where near up to scratch. I hope i'm proven wrong but he is looking like another one of CAC's "great decisions".

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
