For most of the game Yze was one of our best players.

But as a team leader his last two kicks were very disappointing. It was right in front of me and both times

he had a free player in front of goal.

The coach must make a statement that this selfish act is not acceptable. Even though he was one of our

better players he must be dropped for at least one week.

Anyone agree

I agree to a point but it wont happen, it should be highlighted possibly to the whole team as the thing not to do, but the other thing is he should know better and we have no one to replace him with.

A hard one. I agree with you, ...but.

1. He had great hands today

2. Players should play with instinct - his instinct is to kick the winning/fluke goal

As long as he has great hands, I think they will pick him.

(I have a lasting image of the first game we played after Balm got the bullet - Greg Hutchison caretaker. Vs the tiges, at the Gee, 3rd/4th quarter, Yze bouncing fom half back to half forward, left side, and slotting the goal fom 50m. No-one wihin 30?m of him. Sigh! Oh, and we won.)

Bit of a shame really, as I thought he played a brilliant game til that last few minutes where he got selfish.

Todays game summed up Adem Yze perfectly, love him or hate him. It had everything you would expect from the Ooze, all rolled in to the space of 120 minutes.

I would still play him next week.

A Great Demon over many years. I remember his first game against Richmond in 95 when they were flying and we were struggling. A beautiful sunny day and he showed alot and I reckon he's delivered in spades. (Chopper Lovell BOG) These days though, I'm not excited by guys of his age. His only part in our future is guiding the young ones and I don't see that as one of his strengths. (espcially looking at those last two kicks)

I think it was touch and go that he was selected this week, but he was probably helped that it was the 150th. I'd actually be supportive of him staying in for another week, but more of the same against Richmond and I think he should get a tap on the shoulder and told he'd best sort out his super.

He played mostly a good game except the occaisions throughout the game when he allowed his man to run off and hurt us.

So his game becomes a montage in "what not to do" and yet he shouldn't be dropped?

There is a dearth of experience in the senior team at the moment, which, combined with Yze's very good form for Sandy, warrants Yze's selection. The team we had on the park today is very young, and I think Yze's got a viable, valuable contribution to make. Dropping him for a couple of mistakes wouldn't achieve anything.

Sure, he didn't spot up available options, but it was very late in the game, and the Dee's did need to keep the ball moving quickly (and he was a little bit unlucky with the kick that landed in the goal square and bounced back into play..what the hell was that?!).

Not doing the team things like being responsible for your opponent is a must, not an option. Not keeping with your opponent when they have the ball is the cardinal sin @ melbourne, we get continually slaughtered by poor attitudes to manning up & chasing hard to pressure the opposition. It's the scourge of our team of the last few years @ this cancer is spreading amongst the kids (morton) as we speak.

Poor examples set by senior players cannot be tolerated (Yze).

no, just talk to him, he was one of our best and was back to some good form, we need him in the forward line

No arguments on chasing and manning up being a must. It was painful watching Collingwood chipping the ball around while continually having a loose player available to receive. Yze should hear about his mistakes from the coach during the week (if he hasn't already). Dropping him is still harsh. Especially in the context of the players Melbourne have available.

Get off his back.

He was our live wire in the forward line today. Was back to some dangerous form.

Whether you like it or not, he's here to stay, as we have nobody else available.

it was great to hear "ooooooooooooooozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeee" echo around the G again... it seemed like a long time since i last heard it...

he did do the wrong thing at the end there, but Yze is the type of player who can kick those goals... he took it upon himself to do it, and didn't get there... but they both could've easily gone through and then he's the hero...

i'm sure he'll be told during the week he did the wrong thing, but he certainly did enough to keep his spot in the side... one thing i really noticed he injected some pace into the side... something we've lacked a little of...

I would not bother telling him he has done the wrong thing. He knows and has been told repeatedly. But he would not want to repeat it and he has to make sure he plays at the level he played at for the first 3 quarters going forward. Otherwise he should go.

He has done that repeatedly over the years and his efforts reflect a player that has marred his talents with his selfish play that costs the team.

I am not sure why people are saying that Yze makes up for the dearth of experience in the team. I dont know what experience Yze brings when he is repeatedly selfish and points to other players to pick up his man.

He gets a game because Robbo and Davey are injured. He wouldnt be playing otherwise. No other club would have tolerated such a perennially selfish player for so long.

He will be gone at year end and MFC can actually focus on leaders and players that DO play for the team and not on their own terms.

Is he still that type? Perhaps with an ageing body he can't quite make the distance these days.

He's an experienced footballer who knows how to get into dangerous positions, but he's fairly frustrating to watch at times.

It's a shame he didn't square it up to Morton at one point in the last.

Deserves a game next week, was great to see him doing well out there, hearing the crowd go OOOOZZZEEE

I reckon you're on the money Y_M.

IMO Yze's last quarter undid all his good work in the first three.

I opened this topic and it has been interesting reading everyone's comment.

A lot of you have misunderstood my point. Of course on his game he does not deserve to be dropped. I love watching

him play.

But I am talking about the future. I want to get rid of the old " close enough is good enough " attitude of the players.

Leigh Mathews would not tolerate this attitude. I don't care if it costs us a win next week.

I see this as an oppurtunity DB to really make a statement. We must be competitive each week and therefore we

cannot afford selfish acts nomatter who they are.

It's a shame he didn't square it up to Morton at one point in the last.

There were several moments in the last quarter where I thought Cale was Harry Potter and wearing a cloak of invisibility...kept running into precisely the right spaces and yet nobody was passing to him...ummm Cale, maybe you should borrow some of Shane Warne's peroxide?

I agree he was one of our best for 3 quaters.

Having a shot twice from the same spot when someone was on at the top of the goal square ruined everything he did in the first three quaters. He needs to be dropped to send a message to him and everyone else.

Teams win. Not 22 players playing for themselves.

Posted

Adem's first 3 Q's were great. But i was so disappointed in his last. He is sadly a selfish player and always will be. 2.8 in the last Q. We should have won the game, and he should have played as a team leader. C'mon Adem play for the team and you may get another year. Was good to see his skills back back early though.

and isnt that the Ooze all over !! Just cant help the 'heroics" !! Theres a time and a place. You just always get the feeling he's playin gfor one A-Y fiirst and the MFC second. I know that wil brings howls..but its alway smy impression.

Adem..you want real heroics.. just do those team things better..we'll award you suitable kudos then .. You could have changed yesterdays result...that would have made you a Diamond....not a flawed gem !!

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
