Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The amount of support for Brad Miller in this thread is frightening

And here I was thinking the supporters were ready to get tough and help kickstart a new era for the MFC

But a lot of you want to keep the deadwood

Sad

agree totally YM. im astonished there even might be a team out there willing to trade for Miller! he is a hack of the highest order. support him all you want, it wont make him kick better or mark better or grow a heart. how to turn a mediocre club into a successful one? get rid of the mediocre players

You accused everyone bar two people of blindly "following the leader" and bashing Miller because its popular. I wasnt. I just dont think he's our best bet at CHF. I would argue that its the most difficult position on the ground to play, and if you look at the successful CHF's they all share qualities that Miller just doesnt have. It's extremely important for a CHF to be versatile and to be able to look at how the games unfolding and adapt accordingly; Miller is a one-trick ponie; he just leads up the middle of the ground outside the forward 50 and dishes it off to a running midfielder. His performance at CHF lives and dies on that, and opponents know it and know how to counter it. He is useless inside 50, unlike Dunn and Bate who are dangerous inside 50, and who arent as one-dimensional as Miller. If we have better options at CHF then why keep him there.

As I said, I would keep him on the list unless we can get a very good trade for him (and Im skeptical as to whether we can get Buchanon for him and a 2nd round pick, it just sounds too good to be true). I think he could be great value as a negating tall defender in the same vein as Holland; he is tall, athletic, and he's qucker and younger than Dutchy. I think he could surprise alot of people and turn into a very handy player if we put him in that role and give him time to settle into it, but he's not a CHF, and to keep him there would be detrimental to the developement of the list when we have better options.

lets put it simply...who would you rather...

Miller or Buchanan? even a 3rd rounder...shallow draft or not...means nothing. last year was supposed to be a superdraft...bryce gibbs was very ovverrated, i'd have taken selwood before him..and pick 2 and 3 were hardly anything special. petterd in the 40's....bartram in the late 50's....players have been taken late before...i'd be happy for a 3rd round pick for miller. but preferably buchanan

I agree with you here Jack......

I have never said that I think he is our best option at CHF and I do honestly believe that he would be valuable in defence if that is where they want him.

And I have never said that he should not be traded but that if he is we should get the best deal possible, but if you want to get better deals, then better players than brad Miller will need to be traded to achieve that goal. If the club decides it can get a good deal for him that will make us better then so be it, no issue here.

But that being said I see his worth while others don't, and all I have said is that as long as the club decides to keep him then he will have my support, as will all of the list (many of whom I think have less value to us that Miller but I will not abuse them either) wearing the Demon colours. Unfortunately where Miller is concerned there has been an ongoing berating from people that seem to want him to fail to prove themselves right, me I'd like him to prove them wrong.

I would trade Miller for a 4th rounder

I can not go through another year of him taking a mark on the wing then playing on without even thinking and either handballing it to a teammate surrounded by three opposition players, or turning it over with his atrocious handball skills

Or after looking around for 25 seconds for someone/anyone to handball it to, he decides to kick it instead and manages to advance the ball 23 metres upfield with his mad kicking skills

That's fair enough, and I can understand where you're coming from. However, taking a critical look at our list and thinking about who should be delisted and/or traded, you need to evaluate where players are at. Obviously we're not the decision makers, but we put our 2 cents in...

Every player has a price - what's Miller's price to you? It seems like it's not say, a third round pick. What would you trade him for?

"Melbourne is trying to off-load 2005 best-and-fairest winner Travis Johnstone for the right deal.

So far, there have been no takers for the 1997 No1 national draft selection."

Really, why?

As someone else has said, 15 clubs would have a look if he came for free. TJ's name comes up every year, and nothing eventuates. Obviously we rate him more as worth more to us than the market will give for him.

We must be pro-active during trade week

more draft picks will become handy if we can offload miller, ferguson if clubs aren't willing to trade players because in all honesty there is no point having those guys on our list

I have no idea of his true worth during trade week......

I guess it comes back to what ever the club thinks they can get for him so that will help advance our cause and what another club offers.

I hope that makes sense.

Besides I think we are all a little blinded when it comes to players worth, me included, by our personal biases both pro and con.

Who here would take a third round pick for Miller?

Simply a yes or no will do. I will tally the results.

I'll kick it off with a Yes.

Last year? Yes. This year? No, and I'm only just sort of saying 'Not a chance'. The draft is too shallow.

Miller cannot kick and has deflated in ability in the past 3 yrs.

The odd good game is not enough of a consolation.

Depth isn't a reason to keep him, if we have injuries and he is at CHB or CHF, how is that going to help - he is awful in both positions.

And last, he grew up playing against kids in Qld that were awful, he was always taller and stronger than the rest, and therefore never had to grow a footy brain (like develop his lateral vision, make the right decisions etc). And it shows.

Let's play footballers, not athletes with "good leadership capabilities".

yeh i know. he is a joke of a footballer..and i've been saying it for years..like many of you know. But he would have the worst clangers in the afl. how was it when he punched the ball straight to akermanis who kicked a goal and ended the match for us. i wasnt even surprised. he does stupid stuff every game.

It was a fluke, he didn't do it before and hasn't done it since. He is no good, it's as simple as that.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

A fluke......that is gold!!!!!!

No AFL player "flukes" a good game of footy.

If you don't like the guy, fair enough, but don't come up with this crap!!!!!

As I said part of the reason for the poor stats was that he has spent so much time down back in a purely negative role so stats aren't relevant here.

Well said, Pello. That is the important point. The worst thing that ever happened to Miller was when he beat Hall a couple of times. This caused Daniher to repeatedly take him out of the forward line when he was worried about the aggression of an opposing forward.

Never has so much been written in favour of a player so mediocre.

After 43 years in the wilderness it is incredible how supporters celebrate the ordinary.

Scoop is right. We should be looking to trade while there is a smidgen of value in him.

He has given and gives us nothing.

Its a pity Miller has not lived up to the fantasies of performance eulogised by his supporters.

Didn't we win that game?

I'm all for trading him, You can make excuses as much as you like, and many of them may be valid, but there are heights the guy simply will never reach as a footballer. If he's retained it's as the next Holland... With that in mind, wouldn't it make sense to trade him for something that may go on to be greater? It's simple really...

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
