Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where is the clubs money going

As I assumed we didn't get Judd because we couldn't afford him,or fit in our Salary Cap. If that is so where is all our money going? Is there any members that see what our expenses are at AGM's or is that all secret. Where can we cut back so this doesn't happen again. We could start by looking at what perks our board and comittee recieve. Maybe our toffee noses are ruining our club because they are taking our club for granted, where the money should be solely be spent on the Football Team. It would be interesting to see our Administration costs.

It looks quite clear the club is being very conservative. Not going for Sheedy to save dollars, not that Bailey was a bad choice. And now the Judd fiasco, It looks like it all comes down to dollars, Judd would've had us in his top two but i believe we turned him away simply cos of money and we are choosing a more youth policy which is also less financially draining. If we are going down this path i believe we should be looking at better player development and more skills coaches.it looks in the past we go for the players that have the skills which is wrong, we should be getting the strong tough players because skills can always be worked on. Brisbane and Geelong prove this,

The MFC have really missed a great oppurtunity , if we got Judd we would have got record membership, record game attendance and club merchandise wouldn't be able to keep up with number three guernsys. Judd would have cost an arm and leg but he would have returned his cost to the club.

The truth will come out sooner or later and yesterdays excuse will be fabricated crap

Judd not coming to us is not about money...well not ours at least!! If Judd was on offer .youcan beleive we would have signed him. Common sense dictates that. But alas it would seem in the great scheme ( or scheming ) of things.. he was never really going to be a choice.

We will survive with our without Judd. he's good..but not the mesiah !!

Does anyone know the costs of our new facilities? Our cost not the whole venture

The club needs to raise $4 million just to fit out our rooms at the new facilities - if you want to help, consider forming a syndicate as part of the 150 Club.

In terms of our expenses, we are one of the lowest spending clubs in the competition, certainly in the bottom quartile both for football department and admin expenses.

We do not make a profit in our own right, only when we include the annual handout from the AFL.

Last season was well under budget due to our poor year on-field which led to a dramatic slump in gate receipts and revenue from corporates.

In short, we are not a rich club.

AND THIS RIGHT HERE!!

Is the reason we can never ever afford to "re-build".

i dont believe we didnt go for sheedy because it wasnt the right choice as we wanted a long term coach. from what i heard, if we were gonna hire sheedy, he agreed to be paid on the basis that how much many he brought into the club, he would get paid. there was no financial issues there or with judd IMO

What? ;o

I would imagine passing over on Sheedy was all to do with the fact that Bailey was considered the better man for the job.

Compare the talk of Bailey and his emphasis on teaching with Sheedy's youth development/list management, and the apparently player/Coach communication problems (in a Club survey cited by Essendon CEO or Board member).

There is NO relation between a clubs wealth and the ability to pay its players because of the salary cap.

Each club is entitled to pay $6.94M to its players under the cap. How it distributes the money is up to it through the player contracts. However, NO club can pay below $6.38M ( 92% of the cap ).

So the club paying the lowest amount to its players only has a "spare" $500K or so to throw at a Chris Judd type. A top paying club has ZERO.

The fortunate thing for Carlton is that Koutifides and Lappin retired in a lowly side who would probably be paying toward the lower point in the salary cap. Those 2 players would probably free up $750K alone. Add the 500K for paying only 92%, and Judd can be paid $1.2M straight away.

That is probably why Collingwood was not in the race either at the end. They would pay 100% of the cap and unless they could offload or "retire" some players ( say like Rocca ), they couldn't find any spare cash. And they are one of the richest clubs.

The dangerous game for Carlton, is like what happened to Collingwood when they got Buckley, is that they now pay 100% of the cap, with a single player commanding 20%. How do they pay for any more players? How do they keep the likes of Gibbs, Murphy, Kruezer into the future as they command higher salaries?

Or do they follow the Carlton tradition of rorting the cap again? But this time the AFL is keeping a very, very close eye on their activities, and I suspect they know it as well.

So unless the addition of Judd to a team that finished last can create a Premiership in the very near future with the list that they currently have, then they are destined to wallow in the lower reaches of the ladder until he approaches retirement.

Finally, the money that pays the admin and football department etc basically comes from you and me and the sponsors. The salary of the players is basically paid for by the AFL as part of their distribution to all clubs.

If we want to improve our position off the field, it is up to YOU and ME!

Chris Judd will be recieving massive money from Carlton, no doubt about that.

But he will also draw a lot of revenue to the club as well.

How many extra members will the excitement of Chris Judd attract? And how many extra people will come to the Carlton games to watch him play? Not to mention extra publicity for the club who will continuously be active in the media.

Great addition on and off the field.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
